I have a smartcraft speedo (gps) and two tachs. Works good but has NO recall. The big panel (high $$$) does have a recall feature.

I have a smartcraft Speedo and a antenna but I can not get the speedo to show GPS speed. Do I need a handheld to supply the signal for the gauge??

You could do it that way if you wanted all the features of the GPS screen as well as having it power your speedo on the dash.

Normally you have a weatherproof gps reciever/antenna mounted on or below the deck of the boat that sends the raw satellite signals to the speedo the Smartcraft doesn't display any other info available from the GPS?

You have to buy the Remote head from someone like Garmin or maybe Magellan.

I'm glad Liberator 25 has a Smartcraft GPSspeedo that works.

Our experience wasn't as good. The one they sold us had the older GPS software in the speedo chip. The remote GPS head we got from Garmin (sp)? with it's newer software version wasn't compatible with our Smartcraft speedo. The Dealer didn't know what to do because they never sold one before. Merc was going to send me different software to reprogram the chip    .

We gave up and got a Nordskog Speedo

In fact, unless you really need some of the Smartcraft features?? I wouldn't have a Smartcraft anything.

The system is working good now but it has been a real pain in the ass getting all the bugs out.

Maybe if you lived somewhere that had a shop with more experience with this stuff you wouldn't have to figure it out for yourself.

we are a merc dealer and we can't get any decisive answers on smart craft. we have sold and installed the monitors with gps and had little or no problems. I want to use the large gauges speedo and tach with the gps and then I can use some of the smart craft features. I want to use a remote antenna.

Livorsi is supposed to have Smartcraft compatible guages. Someone said they were the same guages with a different sticker. If you can't get any help through normal channels I would call them.

The smartcraft speedo can accept a paddle wheel, a gps antenna input, etc. You do need an antenna, but all gps speedos need one. Here is a pic of my dash with two smartcraft tachs and a smartcraft GPS speedo, the antenna is the white "hockey puck" on top of the dash, just above the speedo. HOWEVER this gauge does not have recall. I do not believe that a recall feature is offered by Merc except on the panel. My gauges are all Gaffrig.

I'll ckeck out gaffrig I really would like to have recall if at all possible. Liberator25 who is the manufacturer of your shift/throttle control?

Ray,

I emailed you off line, but the "Gaffrig" gauges I have came from Livorsi. With the recent deal between them, I would suggest that you also try Livorsi as they are selling the same stuff they used to market as "Gaffrig" only now they are putting the Livorsi name on it. Confusing I know, but that's the deal, as I understand it.

I would agree that a recall is a must, I am probably going to put another (total of two) GPS speedo in the dash. I'll go for the 5" monster so the back seat can see the speed and that one will have recall.

Good luck.
