Several of my friends that run both Marages and the larger Allison bass boats--2003's--run them and love them.Great hole-shot carry weight well etc. Also great people to work with!I have several of their 3 blade worked props and have had good luck with them.Mike T.

I am looking at running his 4 blade on y 21 Skater. I was wondering how well they ran and how much bow lift they have.

I haven't run his 4 blades but have had very good luck with him. He's knowledgeable and easy to get on the phone. I'd give him a call and let him advise you on how the props should act on a boat like yours.

The 4 blade I ran from them was more like a Yamaha than a chopper. Like raceman said give Tim or Billy a call and see what they think. Good guys and they really know what they are doing.

I have been told that it looks like some sort of yamaha prop but I wanted to hear what others thought. I expect him to say that they are awesome.

I have one of Tim's 28 four blades on my Eliminator. You can try it at the Rally in May, or if you are coming to Murray before then, let me know, and we'll get together. Gail and I are staying at Dreher Island Easter week-end so if you are in the area drop by.
My boat rides better, handles better and accelerates better with Tim's prop.

Wayne,
Thanks for the offer. We will be at the Mellon Belly Rally in May and I will more than likely get a weekend on Murray before then but I won't be up there Easter weekend. We will be up there in the next couple of weeks to buy a lot. We have been looking for over two years and think we may have found something that will work for us.
I would sure like to test your 28 because it may be the right prop for me running 4 people. I believe that I am going to buy the 30. I'm running a 30 ET that is a good prop, pulls hard, good top end, but bad out of the hole. I would like to improve that.
I spoke with Rodney Nance, and he said that Bill or Tim Hackney may be making the run in May. It would be real sweet if they brought some props for testing. It would be a good way to pick up some customers for them.
Looking forward to meeting everyone at the MB Rally.

I just ordered the Hackney 30 thru my local prop shop (Skip's Propeller). Mike Meyer owns Skips and he's the one that turned me on to the Hackney Prop. I should get it in a couple of days. I'll let you know how it handles on my Skater. If you are going to the MB Rally, you can run my Hoss 30 and ET 30 if you like.

LEE, EMAIL MIKE(AT100PLUS) I BELIEVE HE RAN THE FOUR BLADE ON HIS SKATER, ALSO GOT MY MERC ET PROP WORKED BY TIM. GREAT GUY, KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH HIM.:D

I think that Mike was running a Mazco RE4 or something similar. I hear that this prop if Tim's is really different. I like my ET but I would like a little more bite out of the hole. My Hoss is a top end prop and it gets me out of the hole as well if not better than the ET.

LEE, LET US KNOW HOW IT WORKS ON YOUR BOAT COMPARED TO
THE 3 BLADES THAT YOU NORMALLY RUN.:)

We tried every prop at Lake X on my 21 and the fastest was the three blade cleaver.
beer30
03-17-2004, 05:05 PM
THUNDERDUCK, WHAT KIND OF CLEAVER WAS IT?
Thunderduck
03-17-2004, 06:09 PM
Three blade Mercury cleaver!! Tried several, including four blade Mercury cleavers, and the three blade ran the best (top end).
I, have also heard that a cleaver is the best prop for the top end ,but how well will it carry a few people or a light load? The only reason I ask is because I also have a 21 skater and I'm also searching for the perfect prop.

Cleaver is the best top speed prop for my boat, but add a passenger and the speed dropped 10 mph.
Ospreyproduction
03-18-2004, 07:41 AM
A cleaver on a single OB 21???? Come on Thunder, NOT the right prop.
Cleavers have stern lift and very little bow lift. That's why people typically run Choppers (with huge bow lift) and ET's (with moderate bow lift)
The idea on a 21 cat is to be able to run neutral or prefered slight negative trim at WOT. THAT will give you the best top end.
I will report on how well Tim Hackneys prop runs when I get it.

03-18-2004, 07:47 AM
NO ONE PROP IS GOING TO WORK FOR EVERYTHING, I'M GOING TO TRY A MAZCO 14 1/2 BY 30 RE3 AS A GOOD TOP END PROP. BUT WHEN I HAVE LOAD OF PEOPLE, I AM GOING TO PUT A 26ET
ON THE BOAT.
THUNDERDUCK, DO YOU REMEMBER THE SIZE OF THAT CLEAVER?
Thunderduck
03-18-2004, 08:45 AM
Lee, you go ahead and run whatever you want. I'm just telling you my experience from running the expensive props available in every configuration on my 21. Why do you think "every" high performance cat runs cleavers??? They don't need bow lift.
Beer, I ran 14.5 and 15 diameter props (three and four blade) ranging from 28 to 32 pitch. To the best of my recollection, the fastest prop I ran was a three blade 14.5 x 30 Mercury cleaver. Boat ran high 90s but it took a long time to get there.
Good Luck!!

The only time you should be running cleavers on a 21 is if you are running twins. And you must not have been doing so well with yours because I can hit 104 with my Hoss 30 and it ain't no cleaver. So.....not every 21 cat ot there is running a cleaver and if you are, it sounds like I've got about 6 or 7 MPH on ya. So you do what you want.....and run all the cleavers you want.
Thats my experience.
Hey Beer, you get a hold of a 30 cleaver and see for yourself.
Ospreyproduction
03-18-2004, 09:18 PM
Your missing one point as well. It's about being able to run at neutral or negative trim.....and you'll never be able to do that with a cleaver, why.....no bow lift.

LEE, IN E-MAIL I SENT YOU, I TOLD YOU THAT I CALLED PETER HELDIN AT SKATER. HE TOLD ME THAT THE FASTEST PROP THAT THEY TESTED ON A 21 IS A BIG EAR CHOPPER. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE BOAT NEEDED 6" OF SETBACK. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD THE 21 NEEDED AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE WHEN IT CAME TO SETBACK, BECAUSE OF THE NOTCH TRANSOM. I THINK GETTING A
BOAT TO RUN, YOU NEED TO TEST AND RE-TEST. WHEN I GET MINE IN THE WATER IN A COUPLE WEEKS, I WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I MAKE OUT.:)

I would believe what Peter says. You would think that he knows what he's talking about. My boat was rigged by Ocean Outboard and if you have a Skater, they are the boys to do it. I'll measure my exact setback. Here's a pic.

MINE ALSO WAS RIGGED BY OCEAN OUTBOARD, ALSO MY 300X CAME FROM THEM. I ENJOY TALKING TO JIMMY, WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE. HOW MUCH SETBACK DO HAVE? I GOT A BOB'S 6" PLATE ON MINE, PLUS I PUT A BOAT WATER PICKUP. I GOT TO BREAK DOWN AND BUY A DIGITAL CAMERA SO I CAN POST PICTURES. I NEED ONE ALSO SO I CAN POST PICTURES OF MY SHADOW THAT I WILL BE SELLING IN THE SPRING.:)

First, my old 21 was powered by a stock 260 EFI. Second, I don't care what prop you run on your sled. Good luck with your bass boat props!!

Wow!!!!
I did't realize that you were such an authority on all Catamarans Thunder. I've seen your other posts as well and now realize why others have made comments on your expertise.
I think that I will choose to go with the reccomendation of the "Bass boat" props. I'm just guessing....but I would imagine that Peter Heldin has just a weeeeeeee little tiny bit more experience than you, however you do run a 24 which means that you are now the cat authority.
I guess your props are JUST for CATS.

Lee,If you would like, send me a P.M.and I'll return you a phone# of a friend who is running one of those props on his 2003 Allison bass boat. From what he has told me,the prop gives good bow lift{Allisons don't need much}and halls weighe very well. The speed didn't drop off that much from the E.T. he normally runs.Mike T.

Arguing about what prop is best is as useless as me arguing with Mod 22 about nonsense. Thinking you're going to find the dream props off others recommendations is defintiely the wrong way to go about it. Mike and another guy up here were running Drag 4's by Hackney on their Shater's with Promax's. A cleaver can be many things depending on its diameter and rake. There are cleavers out there that have more bow lift than drag 4's. A well tuned 3 blade will always be faster than a 4 blade on a well set up boat. Also manufacturers don't always spend the time most think they would on testing every combination. Not to mention the last 21 Skater came out in days when there were no 300 PM's, 300X's, Lightning ET's or Hackney drag 4's.

You know Liqui-Fly,
I have never even come remotely close to arguing about anything or anyone on this site before this post. I simply asked about Tim Hackney props and if anyone has run them.
Thunder chimed in with, "Three blade Mercury cleaver!! Tried several, including four blade Mercury cleavers, and the three blade ran the best (top end)"
DID YOU TRY THE HACKNEY, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I WAS ASKING ABOUT!!!!!
He never dropped any info on the Hackney prop and I never asked about a cleaver.
He then dropped the smart ass remark about the bass boat prop.
Well I've got news for you, my little "bass boat prop" pushes this crappy 21 (of course he has a 24) better than most I have talked to or seen. 104 is not too shabby for a single ob 21 Skater.
My goal isn't to beat the 104, it's to have the best all around, out of the hole, mid range, strong pull, best handling prop I can find!!!
Sorry I didn't explain myself to the tee when I asked about Hackney, but I don't think I asked about a cleaver.
Have a nice day.

This is best load load bearing/speed combo prop I have ran.
Hole shot is great holds the ass of the boat in place, dont have to trim much if any.

I use it a little differently. i bought a 24" 4 blade drag from Tim, and run it on my allison 2002b, with a 2.5 merc drag. The boat is a full blown fishing boat, and it handles really good. i like acceleration, and this one really pulls. Ron.

104 is better than the two 21 with 300's that I knew. They were both running the Hackney drag 4's and at around 97 or so if I remember correctly.

I think everybody has to remember that it takes more then just a
good prop to make a boat run. The complete setup has to be there; setback, jackplate, etc. Then you get a prop to accommodate the rest of your setup.

I have a jackplate with 6 inches of set back plus two 5 degree wedges between the jack plate and the motor. Just passing along the setup.

Bought a 26 Drag 4 from them and love it. Run it on a 2003 Allison Bass Boat. Carries weight, awesome hole shot, and still runs good up top. Definitely one of my favorite props.

Still looking for mine...they didn't have a 30 4 blade on hand, so they are punching one out asap.
