Might be buying a boat that comes with a painted steel trailer that was only used in fresh water, but now will be used only in Salt Water conditions. Since it is not galvanized, is there anything that can be done to protect it?

...sell it to a fresh water guy and buy an aluminum or galvanized trailer. You could have it powder coated or something like that, but it still wouldn't hold up long.

remove all the steel from the trailer and replace those parts with aluminum. See how easy that was.

I think if it fits my boat you should sell it to me so I can get my row boat trailer back!!! Then you can get yourself one of them there fancy trailers.. or try using soap and water on it ???

I remember some kind of wash being used by people dunking in salt water. If I remember it right they used it to flush the engine and wash the trailer off.
Non protected steel (protected like on new cars)will eventually rust, the only thing that can be done with it is upkeep.
The big thing is if you wash the salt water off the trailer there wont' be much salting to do its work.
