Hi all,

I notice a lot of people have signature images. That's cool, but I do ask that we keep them within our size guidelines.

Please create or resize your signature images to a maximum of 300 x 60 pixels in size and no larger than 15KB.

This is to allow the forum to load a quickly as possible for our dial-up users.

Thanks!

Can't you restrict the size. Or maybe make the Avitar capability a tad bigger and eliminate signature photos?

I really don't see the need to have anything big for a signature, it's just such a waste of resources.

Mike,

Since the signature images can be loaded from any source, there's really no way for me to restrict it. We DO have a signature section in the Gallery, but I'm hoping more people will consider my post above and resize the images. We'll see how that works out though...

Can't you just eliminate signature images altogether without eliminating signatures without images? I've always thought it was a waste of bandwidth.

I might still allow images, but we'll remove the signature Gallery section. Most ISP's allow storage space for personal websites, and signature images can be loaded from there.

As the site grows, the sigature section of tha Gallery is drawing a LOT of queries from the message forums. That is a lot of bandwidth that is going to eventually start slowing things up somewhat - especially with some of the signature images I've been seeing that are 50KB in size. Remember, when you have a signature that large, the reader's computer has to load it every time they read a post.

If I put pictures up on my free geocities site, I can get them to show up here without using your bandwidth? How do I get it to appear here?

Yes, you can easily do it... Just use the image code tag, which should be in the VB FAQ page. (http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/misc.php?s=&action=faq)

most of the free page hosting sites have code that blocks remote image hosting. This is for the same reason, but it's
THEIR bandwidth instead. Photo hosting sites mostly make you pay a small fee now, but they let you link images.
