I swear by the construction of my Valero YT, My best friend bought mine, a 1988 that was purchased leftover in 1991. The thing is rock solid, and has been well maintained. It also ran quite well with my Pro Max 225 averaging 92 - 94 mph with wicked acceleration. I have heard that pre 1986 Valeros have a tendency for wood rot, but after 87 they were made much better. I have caught some lingering wakes more that once at 85 + and thought I was sure to die but the boat pulled through. When you hit my boat just about anywhere with a fist you hear that solid sound. I think another important thing to look for is the seam between deck and hull. Mine for example it very solidly fiberglassed. I had an 89 HST that was just screwed together, and that boat today is screwed up see attached pic.
