For my Vector interior I replaced all the wood myself then took the seats, rear bench and side pads to a small auto upholstery shop. They used marine Vinyl and stainless staples, cost me less than $1000 Canadian total about 3 years ago.

i should have asked the guy if a jar of ky jelly came with it too:eek:
sswamprat, the seats look great, but i never took home economics, lol. and as far as the carpet,it has 4 stringers that have to get covered,2 taper out in the cocpit area. id butcher it with those cuts!

I did my Vector. take your time and use a razor to cut the thread from each seat and use the old pieces as pattern and buy some new material. I had a old Singer machine that would go through 6 layers of material. I replaced as much of the foam and wood as possible. I took about 1 week and 175.00 for material. Also did the carpet too. I was work but it was nice to say you did it yourself.

I have the full interior from my hull that is in pretty good shape that I'd be happy to give you. It has two spot in the corner of each bucket but the rear bench is good (heavy) .

BDD,
Don't be scared off by the carpet, thats the easy part. You can cut and layout roof flashings so I know you can do it.

Yep thats pricey. I was in shock when a local place told me how much they would charge to recover the seats in the mate. I would have had all the wood done all they would have to to is cover them. So I went looking for seats. Here is where I found some. http://veadastore.site.yahoo.net/index.html
They sent me color samples and will make the seat 3 different colors if you want. I have flat pieces on the sides that I will recover my self. Going to try my hand at carpet. I have done one boat and looking at the mate this one should be alot easer.

I had a 15' checkmate that I had a fellow glass a new floor in for me. I replaced the wood for the rest of the boat. Used some of the same upholstery over. Cutting out the wood isn’t that bad. Carpet wasn’t bad at all either.

Worst-case do the carpet, new wood yourself and farm out the upholstery work.

That is way out of line. 40 oz marine carpet is about 13 dollars a square yard.

If I was ever to get to my checkmate, I looked around for interior prices. Best I found was a guy up by my lake who did a whole 18' pontoon in two colors, also sewed a design into the center of the seats, all for $1300. It had a lot of seating area, so I figured he would do a 16-18' boat for the same. I think he just did the coverings. It looked very nice.

My only hassle about that, was I keep thinking how nice it would be to have new seat bucks that are plastic instead of the old wood. Undecided right now what way I'll go. Isn't the plastic or glass ones lighter?

bulldogdaddy

sho,you forget,i'm in the waterproofing biz,got allkinds of new stuff to coat the wood with but i'm sure the plastic would be better.

Hee hee, on my bayliner I didn't feel like using epoxy....so I ended up using some rustoleum trailer paint. It was thick stringy oil base, and it worked like a charm. Soaked in and the second coat covered nice. I'm sure it will last the remaining life of the boat, considering the original '83 stuff was transparent it was so thin. I did that on all the seat bucks and used SS staples.

The Checkmate front buckets are glass and I could reuse them, but the rear and bow seats are shot. It is tempting to just go plastic with all new seats by the time I figure making them with wood, then paying to cover them also. I do know a foam shop I could get the foam, but still all a hassle when I got little to start with. The Bayliner was all there and just needed some new pieces. I do have a sewing machine here I could trash, but I don't know if it will sew that stuff. If I did the covers myself it would save enough to make it all worth doing I guess.

That guy also put new carpet on the whole pontoon for that price.
