Two days ago I got a 300 vmax put on my maverick.
Thus far apples to apples I have gained 3.5-4.5 mph which I think is a good improvement.

Having 2 guys, 1/2-3/4 tank of gas, baitwell full and tourney loaded we hit 68.5 yesterday on gps, the same weight and conditions with the 250 wed hit 64-65.

Overall I'm pleased. I heard soo much bashing of the 300 being a gimmick I started having concerns.

My concerns are over, I hope this will help others too.

Here she is!

I know I could have gotten 3-5 more mph outta the 300x but I'd rather have the 5 years warranty that the yami comes with, use reg gas and save 4gs.

I had a built up 200 merc that only took 93 and it was a pain in the butt around here. Only 2 places have it and they sure were proud of it from the price they charged.

so it is true, the 300 vmax is only pushing about 275-280ponies. a 3-4 mph gain = about 25hp. i have a friend with a blazer bassboat that went from the 250 to the 300 and picked up 4mph.

Not for nothing but I always heard 13 hp = about 1mph for flats and or bass boats

Ill even go beyond that, I personally went from a merc 200 to a 225 efi and picked up 2 mph so maybe your friend got more mph but I KNOW I sure didnt.

As I said before I know the 300x is faster, I fish so 5 years warranty, reg gas and saving 4gs is worth more than 3-5 mph.

I figure the 250 hpdi is about 245 and this is about 280-285. I thought that prior to getting the engine and am happy with it. If Im not happy in the future I can call hydrotech and be faster and have an engine with the same warranty as the 300x.

Have a good one, gotta go catch some snooooooooook

You probably pick up a little torque with that thing that is necessary to push the heavier hulls. Probably why Herb is toying with it. That IS a 21' SOB V-hull he's pushing, I believe.

He's gonna keep us Merc guys honest;)

Hi!

When I stepped up from a Evinrude 225 to a PM 300, I gained 6,5 mph. Which is good. Normally they say 13-15 HP per mph.
