The #s on my powerhead are 6285140 on the rear blockhalf portside under the advance/ throttle arm. If I'm not mistaken, this would indicate an '83 V-200 powerhead. The jets are 0.80. I believe the reeds are horizontal judgeing by the exterior shape of the reed block. Can any one tell me if this is a 2.0 or 2.4? Did merc manufacture one or both displacements during that year (If my # interpretations are correct) What type of cylinder bores did they use at the time? My midsection #s are 5967767 I believe indicating an '81. (external pump, single ram). Am I reading these #s right? Thanks in advance!

Probably doesn't mean anything but here are some more #s.
Portside under throttle stop bolt #s are upsidedown on front half of block....969-9078-C1. The front block half also has # 1732 stamped under the advance/ throttle arm right next to the rear half #s listed above. The carb #s stamped to the top edge of mounting flange is 13745427 and the part # for the reedblock is 96770. Anybody able to shed some more light on this dinosour?

Believe that engine be a 2.4 L. If it is a horizontal reed configuration then its probably a 200 or 225. Not certain of the year but I would say 81 to 83. The bores should be chrome. And if it has not been changed from the original, the gearcase should be a 2:1. Sorry I could not nail it down any further.

If you determine that it is an original complete 82 200........hang on to it, they developed 225 crankshaft HP at 5900 rpm from the factory. One of my favorite "bone stock" engines.

Note: There were also some 200s in that era that were vertical reed also. So if it has vertical reeds that does not necessarily mean that it ain't a 200hp.

Here is what I got off the Merc software. The 6285140 number does not come back as any thing. The 5967767 number is 1980 2.4L 200HP Model #1200620 version # ELPT catalog #821303

IF THE HEADS ARE OFF & YOU CAN MEASURE THE CYL'S, A 2.0 BLOCK WILL BE A 3 1/8 BORE AND A 2.4 BLOCK WILL BE A 3 3/8 BORE. ALSO IF IT A 2-PIECE HEAD DESIGN, YOU COULD SEE A STAMPING ON THE HEADS SPECIFING THE BORE SIDE. GOOD LUCK.

Two piece heads w/ stamp right there on da head 33/8" or 2.4 YESSS.......:D I also believe it has horizonatal reeds....:D Now is it possible to change from a 10 petal to a fourteen petal reed configuration, and change my jetting and end up w/ a 225?
Just slap me :eek:if it's a really stupid question and get it over with.

yes you can change it from a vertical to horizontal and from horiz. 5 petal to horiz. 7 petal heres a pic of one that i did just that, its a 7 (14) petal conversion and it ran great, your gonna need a 7 petal front half and intake manifold, reeds and cages and the bleedlines run a bit differently around the front part but i can post that drawing if ya need it, it's on a bar napkin
