Guys,

For the required rifle bolt on a Merc, what is the size, both thread and the size of the pass thru opening for the probe ?

If no one gets back to you I'll check tomorrow night. The bolt is the same as the divider, I think 5/16th. The inner is threaded for a compression fitting....which I also have the numbers for somewhere.

I'm looking to adapt a probe off a digital gauge set up to fit my Merc. I found a source that seems to be cheaper than most for the digital gauges, but need to verify their probe will fit the rifle bolt. Currently the manufactor of the gauge/probe has the weld on or clamp on bungs for exhaust pipes and such.

If it will work for me, I'll post here the outcome.

The biggest probe I think is an 1/8th inch. I have 3/16th probes at home too and an extra set of rifle bolts so I'll see what goes in. If your gonna weld you'll be able to go a little bigger because the compression fitting won't be taking up ant space.

Also check out www.omega.com for probes. There are a few posts here on exact models. If the probes you are thinking of are the ones I had they may not work. After the size of the head of the rifle bolt and going through the divider...it won't (the tip) reach far enough into the exhaust port.

The probe hole was 1/16th but there is some room to make them bigger. Maybe up to an 1/8th. The second pic shows the large probe I initially had. The block was tapped out to 3/8th so a bigger bolt could be drilled through for the bigger probe.

With that info I think I can now make a good decision as to the route I'll be taking. I did not even think about being able to drill out the rifle bolt any,,,, duhh !
