Merc 3 liter Carb Performance Ideas

I need more power/better set-up for my Merc '95 3 liter 225hp carb model.

1. I need to swap the 25" mid for a 20". Can't seem to find the oem parts, so I need someone to shorten the can and shaft. Any other parts required for this conversion?

2. While I'm in there what would be involved to make it open exhaust?

3. Any draw backs to having hull mounted water pickups?

You can get just the midsection from Mercury parts express for $800.00. After that, just get your drive, shift shafts and water tube shortened.

Thanks for the input. What I ment was I can't find used oem parts. I still may go that route if nothing else comes up.
