I'm interested in buying a air chair but I don't know how hard they are to use or learn to use.
Are they more trouble than they are worth??

They are really pretty easy to learn, plan on putting some time in if you want to do flips and such. Great for a day with lots of chop as the chair is above the water. Hardest part is finding a place to store it when you drive around. Doesn't take tons of power to get up but will be good to have a boat that can go slow and not bog or load.

I just read in Waterski mag a article about how to get air on one. You don't use the wake to do so. It was the editor asking the guy who designed them for tips. Turns out he was going too fast, he needed to slow down to 20mph! I guess that will make the faceplants a little less painful:p . I've had wanted to try one. If ya get one let us know how ya do with it.

My friend has two of them. Pretty cool. Ya sit on the chair strapped in facing forward both feet flat. Like Mendo says, ya can get up on it after a couple of tries, it's a weight balancing act to get it right so you don't "pogo-stick" all over the place. More like balancing front to rear. I crashed and burned first 4 tries, cause ya want to lean back, but that just skyrockets the hydrofoil. If ya go too fast, it just accentuates that, but sooooo funny when ya got someone hooked.
FLIPS?? Mucho practice and alot of face plants, but COOL:eek:
He also has a Mastercraft X w/ tower which is killer for extra lift. I spend some time just "airing out" over the wake, then Crashing:D
Pretty funny looks from other people when u ride "up" too....
Real heavy on the hydrofoil side, and I wouldn't want it hitting me when I wiped, BUT, once ya got it down, ya can REALLY bust an egomaniacs cool with one;)
Good Luck:p

Well it just sounds too cool. I will have to post some video of us busting our asses as we learn. I'm sure that we will be able to deliver some pretty good wipe out footage.
Thanks for the input. There are always a couple on ebay...I think I'll just look for a used one first.

I have unlimited access to a friends so I use it often. Its my favorite "ski" (Even more fun than barefooting). Its fairly easy after you get the hang of it but I do know several people that have tried and tried and tried..... all afternoon to get up, with no luck. The feeling you get when just gliding along is awesome! Its so smooth no matter what the water conditions are. It fun to look down through the water and watch the foil.
Aquaholic also has one that he rides often. He has modified the foil and sharpened all the edges for more performance.
Buy one and go out with as few people as possible. That way there are less people that want to ride and more time for you to learn.

Yeah what he said !!!
And don't lean back when you get up, you'll just keel over backwards. Think about the foil like an airplane rudder, every movement reacts to the hydrofoil, not the board, the board just keeps ya from going under.....;)

I have one!
It is the greatest thing, a little hard to learn but well worth the effort. There are a few little modifications to do to the board after you get the hang of it.
The only bad thing, it takes up alot of room in the boat when you are not using it
Hows that skater treating you? Matt just told me last weekend that he is starting to miss it already. We still have a frozen lake here, its going to be a long summer for matt.

I love mine!
I have the older model but have ridden the new ones and the main difference is the new foil will launch you higher without as much effort. However mine has been modified for more lift!
In high school we did allot of competition Slalom skiing and once I learned the air chair I can run threw a slalom course faster than with a ski! They are simply the most fun on the water other than a stand up jetski!

Way Too much fun!
Cant wait for summer!
Another cool thing is they dont take much power to pull either. We used my uncles 40hp just to see if it could do it!!:D

My phone has been ringing off the hook with you guys wondering where I am...LOL:D
As the guys said they are a blast and I am a dealer. The price you are seeing on e-bay is my cost with shipping. Unless I purchase more than one at a time. The price gets cheeper with quantity with 4 at a time being the best purchase. So if you find a buddy that would also like one we can do a better deal for ya. Air Chair also came out with a brand new modified foil for this year. It is suppose to even have more lift.
The guys are right on learning the flip also. It took me over one hundred trys to finally land it and ski away. Once you got it you got it though. Now its a piece of cake to land, just keep your eyes open and spot your landing.
The Allison is a blast to drive but I still do like to jump in the water and get wet;) :D :D :D

I have tried off and on for the past couple of years to ride Auqaholics and haven't had much luck riding it I think that Randy said that the old one like he has is harder to ride than the new ones. I did ride it better this past summer while I was down at Randy's. They are cool, but my almost 50 year old body just can't handle take the good splats when you fall off the thing.
But everyone should try. I watch Randy and he makes it look sooo! easy.

I haven't ever seen Randy ride his but I'm sure hes pretty good. I need to learn how to jump! The one I ride is a first generation that is stock. I'm not sure how they compare to the newer noes but the company must have learned a few tricks in the years that they have been building them.
Just a couple months and we can do some air-chairing!

The new foil is alittle easier but not allot. Once you get the idea they both work great. What you can do with the new one is adjust how agressive you want it and MAN can you get it to launch! Mine you need to muscle it more to get a good jump!
THEY ROCK!

I had my last one custom built into a stuby. They cut the T bar shorty to make it launch even higher. Costs an extra $250.00 though. So I have a little cash into the last one I purchased. But the ride is sweet

If Matt is missing this thing as much as I'm loving it, I feel for the guy. This is one of the better boat buying decisions I have ever made. It runs over 100, runs the rivers, runs in the rough stuff, easy to trailer and it's in great shape.
I did have to replace the drive shaft, $$$$ but it's perfect now.
I also put a new aluminium trailer under it so I could dump it in the saltwater without trashing the red trailer.
We have already spent quite a bit of time on the water and it's only getting warmer. You may be glad that you still have yours this summer. I still like your boat and I'm shocked that you have not sold it yet. I guess it's hard to sell in the snow!!!

By the way, I don't think that my main concern about the air chair is doing flips. I just want to get up on it.

How fast do you tow the thing? Would 40 or 50 be too hairy??
What happens when you hit a sinker or something, :D :D

what speed does it come up on the foils? Say the tow boat has to slow down for one of those my wake is bigger than your wake, wakeboard boats. Does the chair stay up?
Or do you get air with the boat and the chair :D
With all the piece of crap wakeboard boats around here I've thought about getting a chair to smooth things out when you went for a ride.

I gotta get one. If a gal wifa broken leg can ride it surely a drunk redneck can???
I'm to damned big, out of shape and weak in the joints for kneeboards and wakeboards just throw me for a loop simply from the "akward" footing posistion. These chairs seem PERFECT, unless sittin down is akward to ya! How are they in rough water? Around my stretch of the TN River in the summer theres ALOT of cruiser, skiboat and barge traffic. Just by looking at em they seem like they would just "float" over the crappy stuff.
More toyz!

Hi Randy, thanks, keep me posted.
How huge a person can ride one of those things. If a guy was so fat he couldn't water ski anymore, can the foil support the weight? I guess they could make it for any load if the foils were big enough?
