I just bought a yellow SS2000 from Rick Conklin:)

There are a couple of cosmetic issues to deal with:

1) remove his license numbers
2) install my numbers
3) remove his name stenciled on side of boat
4) Allison decals on rear are starting to peel

Any suggestions?

thanks

Should I get a new name for the board to go with the new boat?

use a heat gun or high temp hair drier, you should be able to slowly peal the decals off from there. Once you get them off then you can see if there is any fade from the decals. Jay.

If heat gun leaves reidue, use this stuff called "Goo Gone". I found it at Home Depot, and I think its like $3 a bottle.

congrats on the new boat :D for the decals use a hair dryer because it's not as hot as a heat gun and you can use that goo gone stuff but good old wd40 works great to take the glue off.

How did the transom rebuild look on the yaller bote? Did it turn out alright?

Jus' jerkin' yer chain bud ! LOL ! Thats one sweet ,fine looking ride you are the proud new owner of...! I've talked to people that have seen the boat in person, it was to have been flawless.

Congrats!

Congratulations, David! The trip to FLA will prove to be more than worth it once you're on the water. And a 280 to boot!

The decals should come off with a hair dryer. For leftover glue residue, Goo-Gone (in many stores now) is one of the best options and I can tell you I've used it on my old yeller without any harm, discolouration or otherwise.

After five years, I had my rear decals delaminate. A mutual PBCC friend picked up two new ones from Allison for me while in Jasper in October. I think they were $25-30 CDN for the pair. You'll want to replace them because there is a recess in the hull that accommodates the decals. Pretty funky mold work!

Cheers, Tb

p.s. check out Marine Experts in Barrie. They know the boat and engine combo...

Sorry Ted, no 280.

I hope to sell the Virage and use my XR4. That will be plenty fast for a while.

Funny how I can get side tracked. Plan (a) was to repower the Virage. Now I'm trying to re-boat the XR4.

Will the heat gun work on the rear decals?

Just use a plastic putty knife and clean it up with Laquer thinner. Ricks boat is a rocket. You are going to love it! Keep the yellow boat out of the strong sunlight though. You can update most anything. Just call Allison and ask for Bill .

Yes, a heat gun will work on the rear decals. I did just that on mine when it was new to see what it would look like without them. Then I saw the mould recess. A hair dryer wouldn't be as hot and might be a little safer. You only need to get the bulk of the decals off. Don't worry so much about residue because Goo Gone will get that off.

As Steve mentions, if you need decals or anything, call Allison and Bill will take care of you. He's a super guy.
