This engine belongs to a friend of mine I have think there has been some major parts swapping. It is supposed to be a 1989 135HP engine. But there is just to many things that don't add up. The main thing is that a 1989 135hp should be a 2.0L engine. Take a look at this picture. What engine do you think it is. I havn't gone thou the trouble of opening up the engine to make sure that way but from all my experiance I don't recall a 1989 2.0L looking like this.. Am I wrong? There are many other things with this engine that tells me that this is NOT a 1989 engine but lets start with just one think.. Take a look at the attached pic.

That could very well be a 2.0L. It’s the same block as the behind the liner 2.5 block only they use very thick sleeves to make it a 2.0L.

but a 1989 2.0L? This block looks like a 1992 or later 2.5L to me. But it is supposed to be a 1989.. the date of it is what gots me puzzeld

It certainly does not look like my 1985 2.0L, the heads are different.
Don't know if this would help - sorry it's so small-

I’m not sure what year they started production of the behind the liner block. Can you fine any serial numbers on the block; I could look them up for you.

I have 4 differnt 2.0L engine's here to compair to but none of them look like a 2.5 or really a post 1992 engine. All of the 2.0L I got here are mid 80's so they all are a bit older

The behind the liner 2.5 didn't get released to the public until 91. that block has the humps for the ports on the side of the block it just doesn't have the finger ports cast into it like a 2.4. The only way to tell for sure is to look in the spark plug hole at the port pattern. After 85 they changed the bolt pattern on the heads then somewhere around 88-89 they changed to the one piece heads. It very well could be a 135 2.0L.

it does have a serial number on it. But thats leads me back to it being a 1989 135HP engine. I'm not saying that this number has been ultered or changed but to my knowlage it just doesn't match
Is that number on the block and if it is what is it.

it also had WMH carbs that I thought wen't produced till 92 and a one piece coffen plate that I also thought was built at a latter date. I have 2.4's from 1991 that don't have a block that looks like this or the wmh carbs or the coffen plate.

its on the press in plate on the top of the engine. But I don't have it here where I am
It is still a 2.5 style block it has the larger water jacket and wider head.

The 2.5 heavy block did not come out till 91 What you have is a old style block 2 liter motor with one piece heads PN#18787-3 and a one piece exhaust plater PN# 19036-1 That is the way that model came also the previous models had the vertical reeds. Yous has the horizonal reeds they started with th C239553 and up serial numbers. That motor is a 2.oliter 135 Hope this clears everything up for you

I know that all the info that I had told me that.. Its just looking at it I was unsure.. Thanks for verifying..
To avoid further argument I shall say no more, except that it is a 135.
