I would like to suggest that a project be undertaken to create a knowledge base. Every once in a while when a flaming philanthropist like John Marles leaves a truck load of gold bars in one of the forums, someone (perhaps a team?) should pick that thread out, neaten it up where desirable, and put it into a hierarchical knowledge base. If it were deemed desirable a CD-ROM (or set of CD-ROMs) could be burned and sold to raise money for the board or whatever.
I'd like to suggest that it be organized in a hierarchical fashion such as:
hulls -> all fiberglass -> crack repair
........................... -> hole repair
jack plates -> all plates
.............. -> boat X -> engine Y -> prop shaft height experiences
engines -> Mercury -> L6
.......................... -> V6 -> 2.5 liter -> porting
.......... -> OMC
... and so on.
It would be a sort of growing tree of knowledge and experience. Perhaps it could be an acrobat file or at least contain formatting tags like HTML or TEX. It really ought to be searchable too so we should restrict the format to one that has a good search facility.
