Hi, I found a NEW Synthetic Blend Mercury Oil, that is supposed to be use in DFI-Optimax Engines. Can I be able to use this Oil in a 2.5 Merc Carb engine, and OMC Engines????
Thanks, Don

I see no problem using this oil in production 2 stroke outboards of all models and brands (with the exception of ultra high rpm race motors). I do believe synthetic oil is superior and there are a number of brands available. I believe that Amsoil 2 stroke injector oil does a fine job and is more reasonably priced. I sell it for $16 a gallon and I sell Merc's Premium Plus for $18 a gallon. I'm sure the Merc Optimax oil is going to be much higher than that. I have not purchased any for my Optimax customers yet, as I believe Amsoil will do just as good a job. For my high rpm "go fast" customers I sell Amsoil Series 2000 race oil for $27 a gallon.

Cougar,
The 100% pennzoil syn @ Walmart ,in my opionion, is the best oil on the market at ANY price and it unlike the Merc. blend IS 100 % syn ( $ 19.00 a gal and the convience of Walmart ).If your gonna spring for the better oil why run a compromise , a blend? Use the REAL thing. As for Amzoil , I have torn down many motors using it and burns very dry and clean. In fact too dry and clean for my liking, I like a wet film of oil on my motors when being ran. No one ever wins races and has long longevity by creating friction with dry internal parts!I know there will be people post they have ran the stuff for a zillion hrs without a single failure but @ 10,500 rpms I want wet and slick !
My 2 cents only ......

Is the Pennzoil at Walmart that is marked Synthetic blend the 100% Synthetic?? The little quart bottles say right on it 100% but the big bottles say Synthetic blend. It is on sale at our local Wal-mart for $9.97 for a 5 quart bottle.

If the pennzoil synthetic is a good oil, what ratio do you recomend in a 1989 200hp(2,4L) basicly stock,(reed's,airbox, louvers)outboard?
I have the oil injection system off,and am turning it about 6200 rpm,way high on the transom, turning a 26p chopper(DAH).
