Woody, I have a friend who had an exact copy of your Starcraft, down the red gelcoat! What a ride that thing was. He had a 200 Johnny on it. Best top speed was around 65 but that was with no jackplate, added set-back and a pretty lame prop. Any bit of positive trim and that thing started bucking like a bronco. The hull was just screaming for a 6500+ RPM 2.5 Merc, 8" of set-back and a Mazzie RE3. Your's looks like it's in great shape. How long have you had it?

woody

Thanks, Danco.
I got it late last year, and only had 1 ride before winter. It came with a 23 p alum. prop, so I put a 14/32 torque-shift on and went for my first ride. At about 45 mph it started to buck and porpoise like crazzy, and the prop wouldn't shift so all I could get was about 50 mph @ 7800. I was pretty dissapointed and put it away for winter.
This spring I installed a elect jack with 7" setback and after several attempts got 90 mph 30p mazco chopper @6700 ,speedo.
It felt like cle gearcase had too much drag, so I'm going to raise ob on jack and try for 100.
I have heard many coments about the cps 20 being slow & heavy and only 70's. It's a rocky ride untill you learn how to drive it, I think the cps was designed to scream&fly.

I always figured that rig would run if set up right. It's a very unique hull, definately one that does not like trim. Have you noticed any flex in the hull at all? My friends seemed to flex alot and had many stress cracks. That's probably why he never put much into it and eventually sold it. The design was way before it's time for sure. Starcraft is not know for it's glass boats and I only think they made that hull for a year or two. If your's is in good shape it'll be a classic - especially now that you got her flyin like she should. A head turner for sure. Fly low and fast! Dan

Woody,

Is that blue boat the homebuilt tunnel? It looks great!

Is it a Glen-L design? I've been thinkin' about buildin something like that for myself. Thinkin an inline 6 for power.
Did you build it?
Tell me more.

woody

Hey Tony Brucato !

Yes , I built her myself:o from scratch, right down to the trailer.
It was going to be 18' but garage was to small so made her 16'.
I got Glen-L book of plans but saw nothing I liked. I also had aeromarine tunnel design book.
I spent about 5 weeks in basement on plans, and about 12 weeks in garage building.
10 sheets 3/8 marine plywood, fur & seedar battens , oak transom,Weldwood glue, and tons of ss screws.
Used epoxy paint ,no glass.
Hung a fresh 235 Evenrude on, Land&Sea nose cone ,homemade solid mounts, Second Effort jackplate ,30p Mazco chopper 1" above bottom of sponsoms and ran it for 11 summers, mostly @ 6700 rpm. I had a 85 mph omc speedo in her and went past that many times.
I'd like to try one about 19' with pickel fork and use fiberglass sheets instead of plywood.:D

Hey us1 !

The red boat is a 20' Starcraft CPS by Art Carlson
Going to hit 100 mph next year or bust:rolleyes: what do yeh think?
Thats a meeennn looking boat under your username , bet that must realy haul ass ,eh !

we always were around or owned boats since i was born but this one was my first toy with the 115 inline, when i bought it she had an old white inline 70 horse on it, i re-did the transome from the inside and bolted my huge 115 on it LOL, i thought i had me a hotrod :D then once i was out there i saw hydrostreams and tunnells and watched in awe of what was available for speed,it was alot of fun

this is the boat that started it for our family a year or so bfore i was born, it's an old wooden one that my dad bought off a fire pile and re-did the whole thing, ive watched the old family movies of him doing it, we had it for many years, this pic is on lake catituate (sp) in massechusetts, sure brings back some memories, he had a pontoon boat for years before he died and i remember him going from 50 horse to 60 horse, we thought it would make that pontoon fly hehehehehe

sorry your not here now dad, we could have some fun

Looks like he enjoyed that boat that was in the photo; as well as you and the others. He'd be proud of you and the white screamer. I hear you though man, loud and clear. Double.

When I was a kid, the supermarket toy section had 14" long plastic toy copies of the Starcraft CPS20 hull with OMC gt/xp motor, complete with spinning propeller. If somebody has one, (the plastic toy, not the real thing), I will buy it. Those were the coolest. They were styled after the '84, with no wing. I used to achieve pretty fast scale speeds, I tied a string to mine, and dragged it through the shallow water behind me as I ran alongside the shoreline. I been screamin' and flyin' since I was 8 years old! Got a Hydrostream now, a real one.

If you could get a price on that one in minn. for me, and it's not to much , l'm probably interested .
If it's one like mine I can assure you it won't chine walk, porpoise maybe, but no chine walk
