if i can get my 1976 powerhead to work on a 1983 115, i can see that the shifting linkage is different. is that tough to change, or should i use the old stuff? also, is anything else different such as the lower unit? does anybody know how to disconnect the shifting rod on the 1976? it doesn't have the normal easy-to-disconnect set-up? what about this, can i use my 76 lower unit on the 83 mid?

thanks a bunch. im learning.

crank splines should be ok but check to be sure,
Yes I have seen it where new holes are drilled. You will need the later style inake and shift/throttle linkage to work also. It just not a direct parts swap over.

My '86 Inline has the speedo pickup. It's plugged up since about the third day I had it.

Ronny,
I looked very hard at a way to mount an old style power head to a newer mid and found no easy way to do it. I wanted to do it because i had a very good running 197? power head without trim and tilt, i had a 198? trim and tilt unit and mid section that i wanted to use with it. What i had to do was use the old mid section and i had bushings made so that the old streeing stem would fit into the newer tilt and trim unit.
good luck,
Paul
