What would be considered the maxed out rpm for a OMC looper V6,,,,drag class?? Would this best be obtained with a finger ported or behind the liner engine?? On gas with NOS and alky chaser or with an alky/nitro blend?? Looking to be able to turn in the neighborhood of around 9500 with a .9-1 SSM and a 11X20 prop. I've already run the set up with a mainly stock, (light flywheel, 195#'s compression, 6 2-barrel carbs on Alky and only blending work inside), at +-8000. Jus need the extra 1500 and do it in around 1000'.

What are the options.....other than black.....for now???;)

The first fingerported OMC I ever ran turned 1000 rpms more on a 20 ft Allison bass boat with no other changes except bigger jets. The behind the liner motors flow more and produce more torque than the fingerported ones. As close as I can get to answering your question. As far as maximum rpms, the most I have turned one is 9500. i would assume a lighter boat and speedmaster would produce as least as gooda result. These motors were run on race fuel only.

Well, you saw how this thing did on just Alky, and that engine wasn't anything special. Although I have added a little weight, I also lost some in other areas, so I havn't a clue were to even guess were its at. The wife and I can flip it as easy now as when I first started on it, and she still makes me do the front.....lol. Gonna try and take it to Jasper this weekend to scale it and see jus were I ended up. I'm trying for the 1050#'s in unlimited, but if I end up close to 1200 or so, I'm going with NOS.

See you in Jasper.

Good to hear you can float again. We will have three or four boats there. look forward to seeing you there.

Hydro,

A looper will turn 9500 in a quarter if built correct, but it will need good maintanence to do so. On my dyno a finger ported version will make as much peak power but as Ray said a behind the liner motor will make a little more torque, but also more time consuming to build
