Looking at a boat for possible purchase. Motor is said to be a '91 2.4 EFI. Looks like my old 2.4 fishing motor with fuel injection. Big airhorn in place of the carbs with injectors off to the side. 2.4 type old style cowling. Mid section looks like my old 225 too. Questions are: How do I identify it as a Hi-Perf motor rather than a low-rpm fishing motor and is it any good- assuming it is in good condition?
Thanks,
PaulO

Most of the Hi Per blocks are alidine coated ( Gold color )fishing motors black also a tell tale sign something is funny look forward from each cylinder on the outside of the back ofthe block and you may find boost vent barbs ( fittings where vacumn hoses were at ) they will either be blocked with a plug or the hole welded up that will tell you if the motor ever has been carbed and converted to an EFI. If you really wanted to get the skinny on the motor run the serial number on the port side of the motor at the split case point high right below the flywheel the number should start OB
your dealer should be able to help you with the information you need to determine what the suspect motor really began life as!
Good luck and good boating !

Is there a particular ECU that it should have? Are there particular years or features that should be avoided? Do these things make good power? Also, it is said to have 2:1 gears in the lower; why?
Can anyone suggest a good tech on Long Island that could check this motor out thoroughly?
Thanks,
PaulO
