blkmtrfan

Got them @ McMaster Carr

I have seen them at west marine and boaters world, just allot more $ ;)

just crawled under my cover to try to get some dash shots (fumbling in the dark, LOL), they didn't turn out that great but it gives the general idea, will take some more relatively soon as I plan a stero install in the next month or so:

I actually thought I was getting black ones

At McMaster they had 2 choices rubber or silicone based, said the advantage was the silicone was resistant to more things and a higher heat rating, so for a couple buck why not get the silicone ones, but they came orange, I figured WTF and used them anyway,

Hopefully telling this wont hurt my overal points ;)

When you rig it up, you just plan alot, and bend the wire hard to make the angle.

WOW awesome jobs guys. One thing FYI though, with tight 90* bends like that, you cut down drastically (35-50% depending on the wires basic construction) on the wires effectiveness, and create a weak point right where the angle is. There is potential for a hot spot and/or fire if the wire carrys close to half of their rated current. generally a wire with a higher # of smaller strands can bend safely in a bit smaller radius.

I am not downing on you for the jobs, i wish my current boats rigging looked that good (next one will ;) ) Safety first, i dont want any of our s&fers burning up on the water.

Mine are all smooth bends, not sharp 90 deg bends, not quite as pretty but work well

really? i think it would take alot more then running guages to smoke wires...

thanks for the help

thats what he said, "IF" they carried their rated load.
nice looking wiring guys. thats how i do boats every day. the rubber inserted clamps are commanly called "adell" clamps.
but i gotta be honest. my boat has to work. and usually im working on the boat the same day i wanna go out on it. so it needs to work right and work quick. which means pretty takes a back seat. but hey that what hapins when you live in an area where you can boat all year!!:D

I'll see if I can scan any the photos from I worked for Powerplay Powerboats. For about 5 years I did most of the wiring. A couple of the boats I built were even in Hot Boat, they liked the wiring :D

Don't take this the wrong way. These look great and this is what I'm aiming for. But before every one goes anal wired these gauges are supposed to be connected from the seat side of the boat and then installed.
With real nice tight wiring you lay on your back for all of it. The wire hook up and the saddle clamp for the gauge.
The way its spoda be you shouldn't even have to slide underneath, just spin the knurl nut off and pull the gauge out in the fresh air.
Choice is yours just be aware of what you give up.:p

I do have a question though. For thoses screws holding clamps. They aren't going into raw wood are they:eek: ?
Potential wood rot from an unsealed invader.
Penetration without protection:rolleyes:
