trying to wire a hydrolic jack plate. uses reverse polarity for up and down operation. any ideas?

This is a 2 wire motor instead of 3 wire?
You need a relay setup to reverse it.
I think it takes 4 of them or 2 duals.

lousy schematic but one way to do it

thats kinda the hard way. get your hand on an omc schemadic. they use a 2 breaker two ploe system to do theirs.

Depending on the load of the Jack Plate motor, there are a number of switches that may be rated to do this without relays. You could also go to the early Merc wiring diagrams for the remote trim pumps, they use two relays also. For heavy duty relays you could use constant duty starter relays. (Automotive wiring shops should be able to get these for you).

The double relays cost about twice as much as singles do, so getting 2 or 4 about the same. As for the wiring its the same too. You still have 4 relays (2 doubles). But with only 2 low amp switching sets instead of 4. The power to the motor is the same. If you color the schematic in it makes more sense. The wires are being flip flopped to reverse.

If you use a switch the wire now has to be run up to the dash and even heavier gauge for the length of run. The switch is much easier though.
