I am now counting 4 Formula E/Super E runabouts planning on running at the East Coast mod races this year:
Myself
Davey Jones
Shawn Weber
Dave S
These boats use motors up to 62ci (OMC 44 ci twin, 49ci triple, Merc 44ci 4, 60ci 4, 62ci 4, 60ci 6) and hit speeds in the upper 80 mph range.
These boats can also run in the mod 2man runabout class and 1100cc alcohol runabout class, but in those you have to carry a passenger!
The gentleman in the cowboy hat is Pete DeLactner who raced OPC back in the `60's and built the "Mustang" sports-racing boats. Pete and his son may start building new boats in 2005. One of Pete's best finishes in a Mustang was in the 67 Havasu race. After 9 hours of racing he was on the same lap with the single outboard winner Dieter Schulze and took second place in singles. Not bad for a cowboy from Texas!
