I've had at least one new SeaDoo every year since I bought the first one in 1991, with one exception. In '95 the dealer pissed me off and I went and bought 2 new 1100 Yamahas (big mistake, great motor in a dangerous, unpredictable hull) In 96 I bought a dealership which I kept one year. (another big mistake) Last year I only bought 1 'Doo and it's the 185 horse 3 seater. I've got one of the 215 horse 2 seaters ordered and am just gonna keep last year's 185 along with it since there's no real change for this year in the same model.

I think the SeaDoos are great products and unless something changes don't think I'd buy another brand. The 185 has amazing acceleration but runs out on top and feels like it could stand more pitch. I think that SeaDoo did it that way on purpose to limit the top speed. They've also got some factory high perf parts availibilty now to boost the power including pistons, valves, and a gear to turn the supercharger faster. It ought to be an interesting year.

185 horse 3 seater
thats the one that im looking for because i have two kids 5 years old so the two seater just wont cut it.

The other nice feature where kids are involved is the two lanyard system. The restrictor lanyard limits the output to something like 60% and makes it much safer for young kids or inexperienced riders. All the high perf SeaDoo's come standard with the dual system. Some other brands probably do also.

What a bout a mini boat, like one of sharkeys 13, allison 13, or hydrostream hustler, small skiff or an inflatable with an OUTBOARD (not a jet) . Still allot of fun, kids will learn how operate a real boat and you won't have to be seen on one of those things

Nothing wrong with personal watercraft, as long as the rider is responsible. I find that most boaters that own PWC's are very respectful of others on the water. I've long been a fan of the Jet-Ski. My preference is the stand up models, which I've been riding since I was 16. A pretty rare breed these days, I'll only own a Kawasaki stand-up.

Raceman is right about the SeaDoo's too - they are very impressive. They had a rocky start though - always fast, but not too reliable in the early years. These days they are incredible. I like the Polaris machines too - if I was a sit-down rider :)

Here's my Kawi 750 Twin-Carb SXi Pro. It's the largest engine you can get in a stand-up, and it's a lot for this little craft. It touches on 50 mph. I haven't used it much though. This one replaced my race-modified Kawi 650. I used to be a pretty serious rider, and I'm hoping to find the time to ride a lot again.

for the kids a jetski is probably safer. if they do fall off theres no exposed prop. some of them have the 2 key system like raceman said. and the 3seaters are REALLY stable. my uncle lent me his 98 or 99 (ithink?) 3seater seadoo gtx and me (120) and my uncle (around 200) stood on one side of it and it didnt flip.

dont get me wrong i love the little boats (i have one) but a jetski is 100x safer then these little boats. im always worrying about sutfing the boat on a crowded day. on a jetski just about any water is run-able.

just my .02

I think Stand up like Greg's... Those are fun to ride... I used to get to ride my buddies mild 550 all the time... That was fun.. I know these new Jet Ski's are cool and they can carry weight and all but the old stand up ski's are really cool too...

Just think Greg... Now you can ride that sucker more than just 2 months a year...

"this is the one that im looking to get"

That's the one, mine's just like it only red.

It's really fun to put non believers on it, or even people with other types of PWC's and tell em to get it straight at idle and grab a handfull of throttle. It's really surprising how hard it accelerates and the fact that it jumps to 50 almost instantly.

Hoser, the dealer told me the GTX 4 tec 3 seater is unchanged for 04. If you're talking used as opposed to new, you might want to explore warranty issues, although I haven't heard of any problems with em around here. I think you're really gonna like it.

I can't wait until the 215 horse 2 seater gets here. I'm gonna abuse Half Fast from 0 to 60 in his STV.:D

I'll guarantee ya' that most kids would pick the PWC over the inflatable if they rode both, plus the girls really dig the PWC's.:D ................. there's nothin' like sittin' between a great lookin' blonde's legs, with her arms wrapped around you, bouncin' down the lake...................... what wais it were we talkin' about??? Oh yeah PWC's. The big uns are a lotta fun, but just don't contribute to the problem and bad rap they have because people turn untrained kids loose on em with no basic boating skills or concept of common courtesy.

Is your PWC the "supercharged" model. If so, does it idle really high? Mine idles at 2400 rpm. Factory says thats normal, but it's hard for the unsuspecting rider to handle when manuvering around docks.

Just wondering if they all idle high.

THE HOSER
02-11-2004, 09:21 AM
I spoke to someone in fla. and they said that there were problems with the 2003. something to do with the supercharger and the type of piston that sea-doo was using.

Raceman

Dash, mine is and it does idle high. I complained to the dealer and he said SeaDoo told him it's the computer setting and it can't be changed. They feel it's safer to run 5MPH around docks than to run the risk of it stalling, and apparently that idle speed keeps the supercharger where it can boost better from the bottom instead of some mini bog when you grab a handfull from nothing. (speculation by the dealer)

The guy here says he's never had a warranty problem with em, but if there's a problem maybe I should buy an extended on mine now since SeaDoo offers it within the first year.

I have one of the turbocharged 3 seat Hondas [1.2L@165 hp] and it runs great [60.2 GPS] cruises at 50 gps and rides great.
I did have a problem with it swallowing a valve [which Honda attributed to accumulating sand from the springs / beaches in the water jackets] which they did [finally]warranty.

I saw on the Riva.com performance forum Sea doo forum that the new RXPs have a new requirement for using only fossil oil in them due to the supercharger clutches failing.

Greg I was considering a couple of Kaw 15f [s] but even with it being the best 'Ski on the market, it was just Uglier than I could stomach.
I hope they improve it's appearence before next year.
