Flat Out

Consider registering. I did about a month ago after following for quite some time. Glad I did. I get way more out of being a participant than being a spectator. Everybody has something to contribute, even if you don't think it's important someone will. Consider registering you won't regret it. Happy Boating:)
Flat,
I am in total agreement with you. The more the merrier..
Come be a part of the Scream and Fly Family...
I am so glad to be here. One of the greatest places.
Oh yea I cant forget the people here. There are not enough
words to say how I feel about them too.

I agree, not posting because you think you don't have any thing to say or your question is stupid is a big mistake. Every one can learn from everyone. I have never see a friendlier board for beginners questions, we were all beginners once. Join on up, it really fun.

Guest doesn't mean the person hasn't registred ;) It just may be me (or some other member) looking in to see if we have something to add.

Right now I'm at school and normally I don't sign in for many reasons, (I don't want someone using my login!!) therefore I showup as a visitor.
sign up people, the more the merrier:D
I keep my cookies turned off for everything except the boat sites. Once in a while I come here with my cookies off, and just show up as a guest. For those of you that dont know what cookies are, you'd better go to your Windows folder, open it, find the Cookies folder, open it, and you'll see hundreds (thousands?) of cookie files. If anyone needs help in keeping those files to a minimum, let me know. JW

Never met a bunch of friendlier, helpful, knowledgeable people in my life (not to mention tolerant of the newbies, ie "my" dumb questions)
You guys are great and I can't thank you enough for the great info. ........maybe I'll answer some questions soon

Yer pic looks like an Ally, got a bigger pic? What year is the 16'? and have you checked out TeamBajaMarine? nice site for Baja owners, no "Scream and Fly" but nice people just the same.
Spent the evening on the transom and the beginnings of our instrument cluster above the wheel. Should give our Baja a different look. Will post updated pics tomorrow. Glad to see another Baja! The new ones are nice, but I got a thing for the thinner lines of the older ones.

Scott,
Just took a peek at your project. Reminds me of my boat purchase. My Laser sat outside for quite some time before I rescued it. It took me two years to get it on the water. With lots of sanding and polishing I was able to save the gelcoat. I had to build a new interior from scratch. Worth every minute. Very rewarding to say the least. I like the custom stuff. Makes a statement.

That pic off to the side there is a pic of the AE-21 Hydro, my BAJA is a 1980 and is the thinner type that I like as well.
( but now the pic is my BAJA again )

Hey Scott and Kathy, How did you do with the transom???

We came to a slow down after I cut the top off the splashwell where it met the transom. You may remember several posts re: the 2" gap? In any case I filled it with alternating layers of glass mat and 1/2" thk plywood. We took our time as I wanted to make sure that there was no possible way for this wood to get wet! We let each layer cure a couple days, cleaned each layer befor the next. Took some time to do but it is solid. We will be cutting wood for transom this weekend. So far so good!

Scott, Be sure to use a structural fabric on the inside of the transom as well as the outside. One thing to remember is that "MAT" material is really only good for adhesion and doesn't have very much strength. That is why it is necessary to use either a woven or stitched fabric as well for the actual strength needed to keep the engine bolts from pulling through. Good Luck!!!

We have both the woven cloth and the mat. Would be happy to use the cloth as much as possible, the mat comes apart once wetted with resin. We've used the mat mostly for forming, then covering it with the cloth for final finished layers. Will be glad to be done with the glass work!
Here's a pic of the second layer in that 2" gap area. took 3 layers to fill it.
"Got clamps?"
