is there any other kind of trim button that goes on the steering wheel than the kind that has the cord and is a pain in the ass. is there one that the cord is hidden and put a toggle switch on the steering wheel

CRT which is no cord, the contacts are all in the steering wheel assembly. Very spendy, but very trick! The ultimate, especially if using hydraulic steering.

There's another kind that uses a turn signal-like stalk (or a pair for those with hydraulic jackplates) that actuates the trim. I think Teleflex makes it, but check with someone like Rick at Rickracers he'll know for sure.

Those are the only cordless setups I know about. There may be more, but I can't say either way as fact.

I'm sure we can get them, but they are quite spendy. Another option for keeping your hands on the wheel is the teleflex ProTrim. It will also do both trim and jack if you go for the dual. The CRT will only do one or the other, at 4 to 5 times the cost.

Remember some of the old cars that had a rubber rim that ran all the way around the inside edge of the steering wheel to blow the horn? Not the chrome ring deal, but a rubber ring that was on the actual wheel itself. I think the late 60's and early 70's cadillac's had them. I wish one of the boat steering wheel manufacturers would make one like that. No cords, no nothing. Any way the wheel is turned you always have your thumb on the button. Just a thought.....
