View Full Version : Bleeding Hynautic steering???
I was wondering if anyone knows the correct way to bleed a Hynautic steering system. If not, does anyone have a number for Hynautic so I can contact them to find out? Thanks very much
Oh, can anyone tell me the best place to get a factory service manual for my O/B? Thanks again...

Any dealer should be able to get you a factory service manual for your outboard. At least Yamaha has some restrictions for the one or two latest year models, though, for which only registered racers are allowed to buy servire manuals.

When bleeding this system run fluid in one direction only out the relief on ram oposite the hoses. Then reverse the procedure in the other direction. When you have finished this "bounce" any bubbles out the helm (with fill cap off) to finish preload the wheel in the end of its travel pulling and pushing about as hard as you can with one hand when all air has been released fill helm while holding wheel preloaded, put the cap on BEFORE releiving pressure good luck

Thanks very much for the info everyone. I'm real new to boating and still get freaked when I let off the throttle from full and I make a right turn...
I'm gonna attempt to bleed it tonight

If you are running fast and really airing that stream out, you should be carful about chopping the throttle. Even a properly bled Hynautics system will give you some twitch when the throttle is suddenly chopped at high speed. You may want to look at another steering system like a Seastar or dual cable. The hynautics is good, but they have problems with the hoses flexing which can cause oscillation. If I recall, the manufacturer doesn't recommend that system for speeds in excess of 55 mph.
I have a Hynautics on my Lavey, and it works great, but my Lavey is far from a Stream and probably doesn't see the air yours does.
Does anybody know if you can buy the Kevlar hoses for the Hynautics?

Is there a difference between Sea Star and Sea Star PRO? Where can one find information on the Hynautic steering; do they have a Website? Yahoo didn't produce one when I tried.

system has a higher relief valve setting, I believe 1500 psi versus the 1000 psi regular system ( if memory serves me correctly )
I have the PRO on my BAJA and love it !!

Nelsoncat,
The Hynautic stuff is made by Morse. Main site is http://www.morsecontrols.com and the hynautic page is http://www.morsecontrols.com/marine/Hynintro.htm.

I had Seastar on my last boat. I was wondering if you hard piped it to the transom used bulk head fittings then a couple of good stainless braided hoses from the transom to the ram if it might eliminate some of the side to side play you get with hydraulic steering?
