I/O LU vs OB LU ... OMC

Is there any differences between the I/O LU like on a OMC Cobra and a LU on and OMC V6 outboard, besides the shifter and drive shaft? If not, could you just swap the drive shaft and shifter out to get an I/O LU to work on an OB?

Yes, you will also have to remove some studs from the IO unit. If the IO has 5 degree gears (clutch surface) you would have to have an outboard that has a shift switch on the linkage that cuts off three cylinders to get them out of gear.
