Mr. Gohr,
I have a 1996 200 Promax with 35.5 cc heads. It is otherwise stock. Compression is at 141 PSI. I do a lot of mid range crusing with this motor and I do like to hang it out on frequent occations. I am considering some other mild modifications in the future but for now I am trying to solve a problem. This thing shows very high EGTs at WOT. It shows no signs other than high Pyro readings. The EGTs are no higher with these heads than they were with the stock heads that yielded only 114 psi compression. Do you have a box that you would recommend that I run on this thing? What about one of the boxes with a potentiometers for mounting in the dash? Or are those very pricey? Temps in the lower to upper midrange are running at about 1150. Typical air temps I have experienced these EGTs have ranged from 72-90 degrees. I have always run 93 octane gas except this past summer I tried some 89 just to see if it would make any difference. It did not.

Thanks,

Hank W

What I would look at is the plugs rather than the pyro's. You said you get the same readings with both sets of heads? Doesn't make sense. Anyway, theres lots of these engines running around set-up like this. If you're gonna go further with the engine you'll have to change the box in some way. I have put the HP boxes on these engines and it works. It would be something we would try at that time. Other than that your only choice is to modify the box you have. Let me know whay you're gonna do.....

Next time out I will check the plugs and piston tops. After that I'll let you know what I plan to do. I've been a little afraid to cut my Ally off clean...she is a little unpredictable when decelerating quickly. Thanks
