I just installed XP on a friend of mines computer and did a clean install. Now when I shut down the computer it doesn't shut down without having to push the power button. It shut down normally before the upgrade without having to do this. I know this is a minor issue, but I can't figure out how to get it back to "normal".
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm on day 3 trying to figure this out............

You should go to microsofts site and down load the critical patches.
Also there is a worm or something warning and how to do it.
I don't know if the worm is your problem but it ruined my old computer, why I have a new one. It was impossible to reload windows and infected new HDs.
Doesn't sound like the same problem and don't know why the program don't shut it down. The only things I can think of is using the windows task manager to see if it does it and check the bios. I don't remember anything in bios doing whats happening though. I think there was a choice for doing the exact opposite of your problem.
There is also a problem sender to microsoft. I don't know if the puter will send it though since its a shut off problem.

If so, you should find it here. It wouldn't hurt to get all the updates there are for your machine.

Could be a few causes. WinXP has several bugs.

Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313290Your Computer May Not Shut Down After You Upgrade to Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313290)

Or this: You May Not Be Able to Shut Down Your Windows XP Computer (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320008)

If this is not the problem, check out this source: WINDOWS SHUTDOWN & RESTART CENTER (http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm)

I found the problem, in power management theres a "advanced power management" option that doesn't get selected when doing a clean install.
I found it in one of the links you guys listed, thanks a bunch !! :D
