I'm thinking of getting one. I've heard that the 2001 model yr. had some problems with the spark plugs fouling and with the electronics, have they solved the problems? And are the a fast motor?

From what I understand, they have an excellent reputation. Ask the bassboaters over att wmi.org. They have more experience with DFI engines than most people here.

Hi,

As far as i can remember (no expert though), there was an update for the oilpump-linkage and a change of coils for some models.

Hope one of the experts will elaborate on this,
Gerben

i am a yamaha tech here on long island...we have soldand serviced a bunch of these things..the few issues the motors had were mostly with spark plug fouling..guys who dont run em hard were having fouling problems..the update kits have seemed to cure the problems with these engines... i would feel comfortable putting one on my own boat..i have never seen one blow up ...the hpdi 200 that has been around for a whilenow has been an incredible motor....aside from routine maintenence i have never had to repair one...i would say the big hpdi will be the same now....they do seem pretty strong also...sound nice at the top end too... hope this helps...

Seems by far the best all round choice, thanks.

ghost28, I hear that the O2 sensor on the OX66's is the same on one of the Ford cars?

Does anyone have a pic or scan of the O2 sensor location?

Thanks in advance

It is located on the top starboard side of the motor along side of num. 1 cylinder...It is behind a black plastic box with the wires coming out from the top of it..hope this helps

my uncle has twin 250's on his 29ft proline. had 1600 hrs before rebuild was in order. and were talking atlantic ocean salt for every hour of use. sounds like a good choice to me

we have a tow boat us company whose boats we rig...the guy is very meticulous about his equipment...he runs em for around 2000 hours ..and then sells them..the people know what they are buying ..he sells em prtty cheap...but he says he has yet to hear of one blowing up yet..all different sizes...that to me says alot..
