The Vulture isn't the best performer in the Hydrostream line, but it's a good all around boat, and with decent power I think you'd like it better than the jet/oldsmobile you were considering. Old Hydrostreams have some inherent problems of floor and transom rot that's present in a VERY HIGH percentage due to the way they were constructed. The core in the floor is frequently rotted and it's major surgery to correct it. Left uncorrected the boats can have failures in the bottoms, including de lamination. You can usually here differences in the sound of a rubber mallet pounding on the bottom from the outside. The soft areas will sound more like a dull thud than more solid areas. I'd strongly recommend you check it out well before you buy it unless you're real handy with sandin', grindin', and glassin'.
