This was the final donation from the proceeds of Rumble '03.
We already gave $3300. to the Make a Wish program for the terminally ill kids even though they stiffed us at this years event.
Trisha from TradeWinds Marine gave I believe $2500. as well.
Tony and I decided after the MAW's lack of responce to our/your $$$$ that we would hold a bit back and donate it to a great, local charity.
The "Shop With a Cop" program is one where it is carried out on a local basis and one where the local police force takes the local under privilegded kids out Christams shopping.
They pick children in their area and start by buying them shoes and Winter clothes that they may already need and then let them buy gifts for family members that they normally would'nt be able to afford to do.
From what I understand, the look and feel of importance and satisfaction on these youngsters faces is a sight and feel to behold!!
Those that attended Rumble II and or III may have had the priviledge of meeting Carrolltons Chief of Police Mike Wilhoite.
Mike was helpfull behind the scenes more than anyone will ever know but was also very dissapointed in MAW's treatment of us after last year.
Mike was the one that suggested, organised and ran the boat parade for the kids last year and had lunch for them both years.
He suggested their "Shop With the Cop" program to Tony and I at this years auction.
So in time for Christmas, Tony and I just gave them a thousand dollars to help make the kids holiday a little brighter.
This came out of the auction money so thanks to all who helped!!
A bit of info on the future of the Rumble for those of you interested. Tony and I have spoken several times in the last couple weeks and at this point it does'nt look real promising.
The city of Carrollton has changed the way they do/host some of their events, the major part of which being insurance as well as their grant money.
With out their support for the last two years, and the seed money from them the Rumble never would have happen'd.
For that we thank them.
To think we can go on with out their financial assistance is dreaming. The expenses involved (renting tents, tables/chairs, pizza/beer, web site hosting, insurance, travel expenses, shirts, signs, banners, air show etc, etc) would scare most if not all of you.
For Tony and I to make it through all of this ( for the last 2 years)and remain freinds was of great importance to me and I am relieved to say that we made it!!
On an up note, Tony and I both agree that "IF" there were to be a Rumble IV it would have to be much lower key and back to my version of Rumble I which was smooth water, a local pub, no schedule, no freagin 8:00 A.M. drivers meeting and no hassles from the local Constatbles
Tony say's I'm not allowed to say anything about it and that it wouldn't be advertised if it were to happen, so you didn't hear it from me;)
