I know most of you guy's out there are HARD CORE drag guy's but for ****'s & grin's, If you where into OFFSHORE!! Are 32' cat is on the drawing board agian!

Now remember this is a pleasure boat and we are taking a pole on our new deck, F-16 canopy's or open cockpit? The hull is drawn with a 15" wider beam, now you wont get the kind of cabin wiyh the f-16's like you would with the open cockpit and that mean's alot to the Ladies!!!!

So F-16's or Open cockpit?

My brother-in-law just purchased a 36' Spectre and it was important to him to have an open cockpit boat. He figured with the canopies he might as well drive a car around. It was very hard finding a used larger rig without canopies so he ended up having one built. I guess open with some wind protection would be the key.

Let's see, the open cockpits seem to keep the long blonde hair of the tootsie in the left seat blown back away from the implants so they can be seen better, but the driver's gold medalions blowin' around in the breeze can be a safety hazard for anybody in the back seat. Also, with the open cockpit the driver's hairspray may break. The canopies do seem to add unneccesary weight that could probably be better used with an additional 1000 gallon gas tank. Damn, it's a tough choice. I guess I don't have an opinion.:D

having driven both styles on a few boats, I choose open with a small clear windshield. I dont want to look thru it,just above it but i still want some protection from bug and bird strikes. I have tried but can't seem to get used to the distortion of the 1/4 canopies.

That's all the Spectre has. He said the wind isn't so bad.

Canopies are a fad and are people who are overcompensating for something. There are only a few reasons for a canopy in my opinion.

1. Race boat
2. Boating in cold climates/ harsh conditions.
3. Your other race boat

Phil just wants one to say he has one. Now a 17 with a lid would be cool. Besides most people are'nt going to give up the cabin and cockpit space, and like Racemans says, there is a better chance of a bikini top getting ripped off from wind shear and flapping boobies in an open boat.:D

The first thing I do when I get a new boat home is remove the windshield. OPEN COCKPIT
If you dont like the wind and weather/stay home!

My guess is open. Too bad you could not make it both/convertable but then you would have extra stuff you don't need for mounting.

Now if you could offer the optional "wind shear" and "flopping..." stuff you could sell lots of boats:D :D lol;)

That wind can get tiring. I would investigate a window or something to help with that on an open deck. Sometimes you want to ride for a distance or a passenger does without the blast. Some of those people with contacts hate it too.

A single axel down the middle. One side has canopy and one side is flat. You could make it like the Porsche wail tails and have it swing to canapy at 80 or something.

We have thought of doing a drop in F-16 canopy dash where we could wack out the fairing area and drop it in but there is alot of glass and body work to do that! And it is hard to get someone to pay for that!

Lynn, Whats going on in Oscoda? Seen the first ice fisherman last sunday! Mr. TNT has about half his crap out of the other front office, He is even slow at moving out!

I personaly like the 1/4 canopies since it offers the best of both worlds. On a 100+ mph boat canopies make a lot of sense of many reasons... safety being a biggy. Using only a partial canopy still leaves the open cockpit that most will prefer.

Just my 2 cents.

BTW, what is the hull based on, a Shadow?

Boss, I bought all the tooling about 7 years ago, The company was called Predator marine corp. out of East Detroit Mi. they went out in 1990 or 1991, IRS took them out!
Any how they look to be off a Shadow, strech on the ass end, chines are a little wider and there seems to be a little more free board in the rear, We are retooling because she needs a few up grades.

Boss, We are retooling a new deck from the ground up and just use the sponson bottoms changing the tunnel and the free board sides.

Stokernick, I guess I am taking a splash off the bottom of my own hull!! I can do that can't I ?? It wasn't off someone elses hull design!

I need to whip up a wheel for one on the lathe, loaned it to a friend and it came back sans 1 caster, still trying to figure that out:rolleyes: Going to have to steal the trailer out from under the viper, my other orange/silver one will be going. Need to get Phabulous to let us into the tanner too, don't want to turn into lobster boy.
