Setting timing on 225 Johnson

Can I set the timing on a 225 HO without running it up to 5000 rpm? If so - how?

If you don't have a load wheel and you don't feel like hanging off the back of the boat.
Pull the spark plugs and with a very hot battery,
Advance the throttle arm and check it . When you get it where you want it, then advance the timing screw 1 addional rotation,
which is equal to 1 more degree of timing.
That will put it where you want it at 5k.
