I'm looking at a 2.5 complete motor that has had 3 sleeves replaced. Where the block was split there is some sort of grease that has pressed out of the joint. I asked the owner what that was and he said that it was some sort of Permatex product that will never harden and that the factory calls for you to put a bead of it on the joining surfaces of the block. I was looking at the excess that was squeezed out. He saids it helps the block seal up. Is this normal?
I don’t use it but a lot of people do, I wouldn’t worry about it.

since your on the net right now I'll ask you a question. Can't you run any kind of hydraulic pump to run the trim on a 2.5 260. is the cylinder just a basic hydraulic cylinder. I use to biuld streetrods and have to use hydraulics to raise and lower the cars. to make them go faster we would hook up 4-6 12v batteries on 1 12v motor and not have a problem with the motor burning up.
That is pretty much true except the CCs per minute of the pump is somewhat important. If its to low the trim will be very slow. The pump would also have to reach the pressures needed by the ram to move the motor while under way. Try it out, maybe you will find out it works better than stock pumps, everybody is always looking for a faster pump.

Jay this is Eric. I traded my 3.0 for the 2.5 260 with the 3 steel sleeves. I went for a ride in it and the motor ran fine. It was real choppy so we only went up to 7000 RPM. I'm going to try to get the boat all set up and then probably deliver you the powerhead to switch out the 3 wiseco's and change the other sleeves to steel. Thanks for spending the time with me on the phone giving your take on things
