There are a few Checkmate owners one this board but too many. Mine is a 2000 21' Pulsare with 225 Merc Promax w/ relieved exhuast and TM case. White with red and black graphics. CMC 5.5" hyd jack plate, hyd steering, foot throttle, Gaffrig guages. Runs 77-78 mph on gps with 26 Chopper II, and 80-81 mph on gps with my buddy's reworked 10 year old 26 Chopper. (I'd like to buy that from him.)Only had it for a year so still looking/trying other props. I'm adding a little more setback here shortly (2.5"), but my motor actually runs fairly vertical with just the 5.5". Yes, great running hull in rough water, that's why I like Checkmates. My pulsare has a pad 6.5" wide by about 5-6' long. Not a real big pad, but better then the early models.

I had a Starflite like yours before this and loved that ride as well. It did not have a pad at all. The hull came right to a v-point. I've heard some guys say that Starflites from other years had a pad but mine did not. It was an 87, mostly black with white/red accents. Looked identical to the 88-93 Starflites....Had a 92 Merc 200 w/ Boysen reeds, relieved exhaust, nosecone with low water pick-up, CMC hyd jack. Had no foot throttle, which made it a pain to drive. It ran around 66-67 mph on gps with that same 26 chopper of my buddy's.

My biggest recommendation on the 21' Checklmate hulls is go with a stock gear case. A coned case or Sportmaster actually slows those hulls down a little. You have to be already running around 80-85 mph before you see benefits from that style of case. A stock case will keep your bow up better, therefore keeping you from wasting power on trimming. Something for you to think about.

yeah but without the nosecone i would not be able to jack the motor sky high and still have water goin to the engine.i tried a couple of years ago to block off some of the uppermost pick up holes and jack the motor up but i ran out of water.so i bit the bullet and installed the cone and was able to jack the motor about 3" higher than without it.this was good for almost 1000 rpm increase.

I've got a 1989 Starflite with a 2.5/245(stock), Sea Star Pro steering, Detwiler jack, 9.5 inches setback, stock gearcase, no bullet, no pickups, no foot throttle. Spinning a 24 Chopper 6900 at 72mph on the speedo. Red with black and white accents. Featured restoration in Hot Boat March 2000. I had a 1979 20' Enchanter/235 Evinrude for 10 years before this rig. My brother has a 1986 23' Enforcer/225 Johnson(lead sled).

Oh yeah, you cant deny a good ride that also performs well. Im runnin a 92 starflight black with flamingo and pink stripes ( sounds ugly, but looks good ). I have a cmc hyd jack and 200 merc 2.5l xri. Run a 23p tempest plus after talking to mike a checkmate he stated that was the best all around prop for the boat as they tested them. I can get about 68-70 mph ( or so i think ) while spinning 6500 rpm. Just installed hyd steering and johnson hyperfoil. both items made a world of difference!! Another happy checkmate owner !!!!!

Currently a 1995 Checkmate Persuader 183. Mostly red with black and white stripes. 18' 6", bow rider, 4.3 LX V6, Alpha drive with 1.62 gears, 23" Laser II prop best speed 58-59 on GPS at 4400 rpm, and most important right now is it gets GREAT gas mileage! I go twice as far on a gallon of gas with this 4.3 V6 than I did with my Merc 150 XR6 motor on a much smaller boat.

I just bought a 1979 Enchanter w/Ford 460. I'm still trying to work out a few bugs. What would be a good site or resource for information..?
