Had it down at Jcraft today, decided im gonna have it gel coated,(I know its way more work), when I got home I started to take the rotted floor out, the most rotted part under the seat had a peice of plywood over it making it seem strong. The cores probably not gonna be looking good when the floor comes up. The area in front of the bench seat seems strong and only soft in a few spots but i think im gonna take it all out. Was to dark for pics so i ll get some on the weekend. Taking half frozen carpet out sucks. I guess this boats gonna be a little more of a project then I thought.

they almost always are. i did a 15 foot ski boat for my first. i had about a year into it before the boat saw the water. luckly the vector and the check didn't need half as much work. but i have had the boat completly stripped. bottom line, boats always need more work!

Sure is work, time mostly. But the cost of a new hull like I would want...I just can't put the cash there. Cost of fixing one is cheap, and then how long will it last? Looks like a long time for the stuff I have done. Also gets done the way you want it.

I'll be into a recore once I get mine home so I am sure we can compare notes. I will be picking away at the boat slowely as the pocketbook allows. When I have more time I'd love to come by and have a look

Fear not the rott young perf boater, its just wood and glass work. Think of the weight you will remove once all the wet wood and core are out. With newer resins , cloth and coring materials you can make it lighter and stronger than it ever was. If you have garage space at home you can work on it all winter at your own pace. Just need a good space heater :)

Hopefully this weekend wont be to cold and I can get the old floor out. I think the trailers to wide to fit into the garage, its also to long with the motor on it, any ideas how to get it of the bunk trailer. Anyone know where i can store the motor cheap, for the winter i dont know how id pull it off in the garage. One of those tents would be good but there a hit in the wallet. Not looking foward to a recore, does the deck need to come off. I ll get some pics of the floor coming out this weekend.
With the motor off you can just pull the boat off the trailer with a come along onto some old tires. Or lift it off with a few buddies. Hull only weighs around 600lbs.
I sent you an email

You can probably rent a engine crane for $25 bucks and buy yourself a heavy duty car engine stand for $100. It works. Email me if you have any questions. I have a big Yamaha bolted to one in the garage right now.

be carefull as the height of the motor will put the center of gravity high and it can fall easily. I have one, (Canadian Tire $75) with two pieces of 2x8's bolted on to extend the height but I also strap/chain it to the wall when not moving around.

I'll store the motor for ya! :D;):D Whoahahahahaha <evil laugh>
Do you really need it back in spring? ;)

Yeah I kinda need it back in the spring, It will probably be pretty hard to get it to 80 and balence it on the pad paddling it.

No problem and not tippy. Should be around $100 Cdn. Work Great! I have a 2.6 Yamaha on one now.

Bryan,if you want some old tires to set her down on,lemme know and I'll bring some home for you. Getting it off the trailer isn't too bad if the motors off. Just call a few friends over to lift it and walk it back into the garage. If you need somewhere to lift the motor off, you can haul it down to my shop and we can take it off one night next week because this weekens out. I'll be at Double R peformance's xmas bash sattyday and prolly too hurtin sunday for any real work :)

Forgot to dump the pics from the camera to my computer, so none till next weekend, I only worked on it for about a hour sunday. How far does the glass cover \the floor going up the sides of the boat. Mines a 1980 i think if that helps. Theres these glass boxes full of foam and it looks like the glass from the floor goes right up the boxes, more then one laminate too. If anyone has ever done this (floor replacment) could you please post some pics, or your phone number so i could give ya a call, thats all for now

Heres the pics from last weekend before i started to ripp out the floor, Im waiting to get the motor off the boat and the boat off the trailer and in the garage before I go any futher.

You can kind of see the fiberglass boxes running down the sides. I assume the glass from the floor contiues to make the boxes

No I haven't. Strangely I haven't heard from Capt at all yet. I am assuming the work on his hand has complicated things for him. I am just waiting for word from him.
I broke both arms in University, its a huge PITA! I was supposed to be in Windsor this weekend but not sure if thats gonna happen now.
If anyone who knows Capt reads this is he around or ok? Last I heard he was also sick with flu or something.

Some crabby ass people around here lately so I've just been watching. I have a sno blower and a friend with a plow truck. Just raining like an sob here for the past two days. I have a door bell and a new garage door opener and I am done with the house.

Looks like it is coming along nice. I like the colors too, can/are you going to save them or have color plans yet? I never fail to find stupid stuff in boats now thanks to S&F:rolleyes:
Capt, I hear ya. Sounds good, I got my garage door/wall all insulated now (last major feat out there) and new tires on the truck:) :) They lied, we got rain and just a dust of snow this AM. Now if I can get an old plow on the truck I'll be golden! Someone even has a big old 5hp air compressor free for me now:eek: if I can get the 1000lb thing back here. Talk about heavy...got to have something to be :) about! Don't know if it is good/fixable or not.

Maybe you can mount the O/B power head , inboard, and then put a broom handle, out thru the transom, from the powerhead, with two of them props, on the end of the broom handle...that basically desribes the BlackHawk Drive...don't it:D
SORRY...TRON...back to VECTORS...she's shaping up...hey did you know I got an old stream project underway too...can you say VULTURE

Drain holes are in the sponsons. I think at 10 feet shes a little small for twin inboards don't you? ;)

Put a light 500+cc motorcross bike motor in each side, should be good for 60hp each? Might be a little boggy out of the hole, but once you get going in high gear it will be nice:D lol Ok, maybe single is better...would be interesting to see if a sled drivetrain would hold up for long or trash the belt in 5 minutes running a 10-15' boat. Just thinking. Those pipes would be real hot in there though.

You gotta a lot of courage working out in the cold...THUMBS UP too ya and its looking real good already.
My Vulture looked like this when I picked it up
Hey Fibertron,
That is the pattern I have on my V-King. John did it and said that it is the most difficult pattern he ever had to do. He also said he would never do it again! Really tough to get the angles right and the pattern symmetrical.
So be prepared to get frustrated if you go with that. However, IMHO it is the baddest..........so go for it! What colours would you go with?
AnthonySS
12-12-2003, 08:48 AM
Not a Great Shot...but trust me when I say its looking a ton better...mostly just cleaning it up and building new stuff for it a lot of wet sanding the hull...you should try that too...cause it works real good.
Plan is to rerig and run it. This is going to be the family of 5 ride...and it should be good for that. It needs a solid 200 HP merc too...hopefully in the Spring:)...just picture your vector with 3 extra feet
AnthonySS
12-12-2003, 08:51 AM
Here is a pic of it in its glory days....just love the length

Thanks
LoL Adam I tried to post the picture of your boat but it wouldnt work. Im doing it the same as yours except blue instead of red about the same darkness, Red looks real good but we cant have two boats looking the same. Im only working in the very cold outside untill I can get it lightened up enough to get into the garage, I dont think the trailers fitting through the door. Anthony were did you find the vulture, i thought I saw one scream and fly recently that looked the same. Cool boat though.
AnthonySS
12-12-2003, 11:17 AM
I've had my eye on this Vulture since 1990, when I first saw it at a PBCC event. I told the owner if he ever wanted to sell it to let me know. Well in 2000 he called me...unfortunately...I was knee deep into the STV's at that time and had no budget for carrying two boats...but I knew a freind that was looking for a Big stream.
So my freind bought....I told my freind the same thing...If you ever want to sell it, let me know...we'll its mine now. It will be the ideal family bus...and Dreams of another STV still dangle in my head too
Funny thing is that is the pic I brought into John to show him how I would like my boat to look. Mine goes red into grey into black.
I need to take some more pics. The only one I have in digital format is my avatar and it seems to randomly accept posting. I tried to post it in the reader's rides but I think it is not working. We have a digi camera in the family now. So, I will get some more in the spring.
Can't wait to see yours in the summer. Blue (and black?) will look sweet. That is the combo I liked, but I was over-ruled by the better half on that one!!
Fibertron
12-13-2003, 01:38 AM
I never noticed the grey?? i was thinking that but its even more work in something that already seems endless. Your turns in the back also seem different from the pic i posted, i like yours better. Im thinking white main colour, black lines and the blue in the middle or else blue lines and black, what do you all think. I also was thinking of getting the windshield frame done blue if its not too much or even possible. Anyways i shouldnt be talking about how im gonna paint it when I still have a core to replace. Hopefully it will warm up again for a day so I can get the floor out.

Hey Tron,
I did a restoration on a Vector a few years back...was a fun project....and mine was a beater too when I got it.
If you like the original metalflake gel, I have some tips to bring it back.
Anyways, feel free to ask me anything you wish. I am not the most experienced guy out there, but I learned a lot on my project.

Its coming along, it took forever to get the core out from under the deck(well a day), im pretty tall so it was kinda awkward under there. I put the pry bar through the boat atleast twice, which sucks, im havin it gelcoated though so those crack will cover up. Ive decide to have john speath laminate all the core back, Since im spending the money and time, i might aswell have it all vacumm bagged in for a few extra bucks. Schools been pretty busy latley so i havent been able to work on the boat to much, plus a have to find a co-op for the summer, which seems to be impossible for most, something to do with tool and die, mold making or cnc. I bet your wishin you never asked, now you gotta read my life story. Anyways im home for my bday for night and no class tommarrow so tommarrow im gonna rip the rest of the core out i hope. As for pictures i have a few, and ill put them up as soon as i get my camera back. Later

I'm heading to MI this weekend to grab my Vector from Capt hopefully. I sorted out a trailer. praying for no border hassles
I also have a VERY interesting prospect for another boat. I'm like a kid in a candy store over this one. If I can make it happen it will be a major upgrade for me yes and the board will be the first to know

As far as a bill of sale goes I will have to get him to write something up I guess, the boat was free :D I hope it looks like enough of a basketcase they don't give me a hard time, of course that hope will dissapear the second we cross! hehe

make sure you have the title as well they will want both a bill of sale plus the title or ownership what ever you want to call it .if you have all your paper work they wont even go out and look at it .the girl at the windsor office was telling me that as long as they dont think you are trying to scam them you always will just walk through.
