What do you guys think is a better motor to go fast mercury or omc. please give reasons for your choice. also what motor can you do more mods on to get more horsepower out of them?

IF there ever was a topic that was beat to death.
Its the great debate that will live on as long as the engines are still around.
I sticking with the merc.
Same here...I allways will now that I've seen how well they still run without oil...:eek: :)

Speed record has nothing to do with a motor that a weekend user just wants for going fast...;)

OMC's can be made competitive with mega bucks and mega effort, but to buy somethin' and just hang it on and go, there's no question that Mercs have the advantage. Merc has a 280 High Perf engine for light fast boats and a 300 plus (330 last I heard???) for bigger stuff, all with factory warranty's

omc man mine is 22 years old still runs strong and runs mid 90s on my 17 action

I wouldn't count Merc and OMC out of that question either.
