I'm down to installing the engine harness. I'm following the shop manual to the letter .
Question One-There is a small ground wire from the distributor to the block. It's quite corroded and I was going to replace it. The wire is not on the schematic, and it is connected to one of the block bolts...two reasons I am questioning whether or not it should even be there.
Question Two-The boat harness has an orange wire on pin E. The engine harness has no pin E. The schematic does not show it on the engine harness either. ????
Thanks for any comments....

On your first question, Yes that ground wire needs to be there. It gounds the trigger, The dist. turns in a grease covered sleave so a good ground needs to be made with that wire. I'll have to check on your second question I can't off hand think what the deal would be with that:rolleyes:.

Just looking at the wiring diagrams...

The orange wire (E) is not used on distributor motors. It is used on the distributor-less motors as the kill switch connection I believe.

My Rapair harness has an orange wire that is described as not used for distributor application.

Did the ADI ignition inlines use the same side pan plug as the earlier engines?

Hi,

My Mercury service manual (90-86134) shows two ADI setups; one with the external plug and one with the internal. The diagram has serial number 5594656 and below at the bottom.

Ok...I'll replace the wire. Should it connect to a block bolt though??? I've just never seen that done on any engine.
FYI, I'm sure ya'll already know but the the shop manual shows that the orange wire on pin E is only used when the key switch is off where it connects terminals D and E. Like you've already said, I guess it's not used on a CDI ignition.
THanks!

All 4 inline sixes that I have are on a block bolt.
