Good eye Dave. As a matter of fact, close examination raises some interesting possibilities. It's obviously a BP with a Twister/Twister 1 style adapter and a Speedmaster style gearcase rather than either style BP. Does that say that they were prototyping SSM's on the BP's in 68 or 69, or maybe somebody did some retrofitting later?

Is that the Ride Guide cable that comes out of the side of the cockpit??... Must have been designed around some other steering set-up and then Lake X "Southern Engineered"
Great Photos !! Keep 'em coming !!

PC, a lot of those old tunnels were set up that way. My dual engined Kitson was set up that way from the factory, and I've seen several Glastron/Molinaris like the one in the picture configured the same way.

I remember in old Hot Boat magazine that he ran the SSM when the BP lowers went south. The SSM was around way before that time. The early ones had a non web look at the strut. I like your politician explanation. :D

The decals look 71-ish to me too

Jim, I wasn't refering to the mid as Twister, but only the gearcase adapter which I first saw on a Twister, as opposed to the BP style lower which as you know mounted directly to the mid with no seperate adapter. My guess is that the mid is in fact a Super BP.

Damn, now y'all are gonna make me go dig out some old catalogues and see what the diff between the 70 and 71 stickers are. I was thinkin' they were the same.

The only difference between decals on the 1970 and 1971 1350 was the face plate. The 1970 still used the plastic Kiekhaefer Mercury logo and the 1971 was just a decal.

"THOSE ADAPTERS WERE USED ON THE SUPER BP'S ALSO. WHEN I QUIT RUNNING THE BP UNIT, THAT WAS THE ADAPTER WE USED TO MAKE THE SSM FIT."
I knew they were used there, but figured they were all retro fitted by the racers rather than being delivered from the factory that way. As you know, my mentality is always how the engines came originally rather than how they were modified. The first red striped Twister I got (from Noah) had a BP mid mounted on it, and the first BP I ever bought had an adapter and a SSM, so that gave me everything I needed to switch em both back to original.

So Sam and Jim, you can see in that picture what's on that front faceplate??????? Damn boyz, you've got a heap better eyes than I do.
While we're on the subject of stackers, I desperately need 3 elbows to finish a project motor. I've got every piece of the rest of the kit, but can't find the elbows. I could use the megs too, but they're easy to duplicate.

Jim, the exhaust was goin' back in the mid, just like the one I got from you, only it had the earlier design big bolt pattern on the side of the mid. The water dump was on the top instead of the bottom like the blue Twister 1's. Incidentally, I've seen Twister 1's now with both the big and small pattern on the side of the mid where the log mounts. I'd like to know when Merc made the change. All of the red Twisters I've seen have the big pattern.
