I remember it. I was sitting directly in front of it in Miami Marine Stadium in 1975. UPI came through the stands and said they'd pay 5K for a useable photo and a guy close to me told em he had one. I guess this was it. There were mulitiple shots of that blowover, I think either 3 or 4 in series. Reggie was one of em, can't ever remember the other two without finding my old newspaper article which I still have somewhere. Herring maybe????
Neat pictures you're posting. I hope you keep em coming.

That's my dad, Unlimited World Champion 1969.
He drove the same boat at Havasu 1970.
Have fun,

Neat picture TR. I've gotta admire anybody who can run a Switzer Shooting Star at those kinds of speeds. Mine scared the crap outta me at 50. I'm afraid you're off a little on the year though. I think I've got that same picture somewhere a little clearer and I'm pretty sure it's an Evinrod V6 which most likely wasn't anywhere near the drawing board in 71. I'm guessin' 76/77 would be more like it.

TR: It's not hard for me to believe.
Here is a link to a newspaper article that shows Alan Wynn being clocked at 100, and setting a 94.9 mph record (average) with a 1250 Super BP on a Switzer in 1970:

The V6 runnin' a hundred plus is believable, but seems pretty hard to believe 100 (or 94 for that matter) with a 1250 Super BP Stacker on that boat.

Gator, you got that record when I was 17 days old :D
From what I understand, records were being broken several times a year during that time period, mostly in Switzers.
The driver, Alan Wynn, actually sent me an email the other day asking where I got those photos. I have never met him, hopefully I can get some more info from him.

Wynn set a few records in the late 60's. The 84.9 in dad's old wooden Switzer was done with a closed exhaust 1250.

Aside from the fast Switzer hull, Wynn’s Super BP probably had several mods such as the one shown in the photo below. The openings in the ‘stock’ inner plate are constricted, but can be filed or ground to remove the constriction, as shown below. On the left is a stock inner plate from a stacker. On the right is an inner plate that was modified by Wynn’s Marine during that time. Notice the difference in the width of the openings as well as the feathering on the separators (red arrows).
