SO MUCH FOR A PROFESSIONAL REBUILD.THE ENGINE LASTED LONG ENOUGH TO BURN 42 GALS.OF FUEL BEFORE SQUEAKING TO A HALT.WORSE YET I HAD JUST DRAGGED IT 170 MILES TO ATTEND THE CT RIVER RUN.I THOUGHT I HAD ALL THE BUGS WORKED OUT BUT I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. I TRADED A PERFECT RUNNING 225 AND $5500.00 CASH FOR HIS MIKE DEMAYO AKA BLACKBIRD PIECE OF JUNK .THIS ASSHOLE BLAMES ME FOR THE MESS HE STARTED .WISH I KNEW OF A WAY TO GET MY MONEY BACK.DONT BY BLACKBIRD REBUILDS.WILL SEE IF HE SEND PARTS TO REPAIR IT OR $$ BACK.FEEL FREE TO REPLEY MIKE IF YOUR WATCHING.NICK

Sorry to hear that! I sure hope they make it right with ya!
If they don't/won't, Then Maybe you should have a "Certified Mercury" dealer tear it down and document what went wrong?
Then use the BBB to work out the details with Blackbird.
Next time try JSRE!

this sounds familar. if blackbird does you like they (or he, mike demoya) did me he will tell you to send the powerhead back and he will repair it. he will make all kinds of excuses to why the powerhead failed. the ones i heard ranged from his problems with wiseco pistons (lol...supposedly they send him seconds or inferior pistons while they sell all the goodens to everyone else) to various tolerance problems with rings, to improper breakin procedures to bull ****ting extraordinaire. after approximately 1 month he'll send the powerhead back, same ole block, with a bastard oversized piston in it now. you'll labor to re-install the powerhead, after of course you furnish all the necessary gaskets and chased all the threads on the short studs that were left in and now have returned to you "boogered up". after much labor and the tlc normally reserved between a mother and a child you anxiously take your beloved boat with "same as new factory warranty" powerhead to the lake. you finally get the beast to fire up and idle and now you ease out on the big water. you get your boat on plane and ease around at less then 3500rpm. this last for about 5-7 minutes. then you hear that familar sound. the last sound you heard on the "other" motor. the sound of metal on metal, the gaulding of the piston on the cylinder wall....again. see mikes little ploy is that he will put crappy materials in your motor (probably purchased from E-Bay) and return your motor to you several times at little cost to him. this happened to me. i agreed to let mike fix my engine. his fixed motors failed me 5 times with only one of the five running for more then 30 minutes, it lasted less then 3 hours. my advice to you is to not let him make repairs to it at all. get the certified merc mech to tear it down and put in writing what he finds. mike demoya couldnt tell the truth much less build a merc if his life depended on it.

Nick,I can fell your pain and I wouldn't want to say either way but **** happens.Fuel restrictions, jetting, injector failure, timing etc can cause problems.I know because **** happens to me often because I run everything hard.Wiseco pistons are often blamed and they sometimes could have a problem or a defect like anything else.I would give the man a chance to make it good,at least see the motor to get his opinion on what happened.I know people that have had their powerheads pumped up by one of the best builders,$10,000 for 15 minutes. It was not the fault of the long block but it sawed in half just the same.Sorry about your motor man.:(

That's how the dude operates. Like boilerdwag said...he does such a ****ty job that the warantee doesn't mean anything to him because he'll just throw junk part in and send it back. Meanwhile you get killed with shipping and aggrevation.

that sucks about your motor, hope he makes it right, if not IT SUCKS TO BE HIM. anyway we are opening up a stock rebuilding shop down here at LAKE OF THE OZARKS and only building stock motors regardless of h.p.. Be nice if we could build a few of your motors to help us get the word out. thanks, J F'n A Marine/ salvage

I don't mean to be rude as you may be the best builder around, but I don't trust any company with /salvage in their name to rebuild my engine...

He said he'd cover the parts but not the rebuild cost. He offered to fix. hahahahahaha "Yeah sure sucker ship it down here at your cost and I'll ship it back to you at your cost when I get it fixed cough couch". So now you'll have another couple 100 on top of your $10,000 you paid for a like new remnaufactured motor. Then you pay for the new gaskets and invest more of you time for another Gem that isn't going to last. It isn't fully torn down yet and what parts are needed isn't known. It's winter up here...no one is in a hurry.

Your right it is hard to trust someone w/ salvage in their name, but in Missouri if you buy and sell insurance boats, the law says I have to have the name salvage at some point in my business name. Due to extra cost of insurance I run everything under one name, sucks but that is reality in my show-me-state. thanks, J

It's all ball bearings these days....
Incorperate the company with the "salvage" in the name in the title, and then use a DBA for the business without "salvage in the title.
Example; F'n A Badass Marine and Salvage inc. DBA ( doing business as); F'n A Badass Marine Rebuilders..

Rev. you are correct, but in Mo. people get confused easily by that type of heading, and might get scared. Some of us think it is because the Arkansas air somehow filters up this way. The way my insurance is, if I show a way of adding more liabilities, in such possibly making more money. My premium will go up. I am happy w/ my little place for the time being, if the economy gets and stays better, I will become badass marine. Now I have a headache from to much thinking. see ya, J

You don't have to put the whole" XYZ inc., DBA whatever" on everything, just checks and permits and legal stuff. Use the "DBA" name on it's own.
Insurance premiums on the other hand, are based on gross sales anyway, so it shouldn't make a difference.
If not for insurance and taxes, we might all make some $$
