Had a great day to start with, finally got the 18 wet after chasing problems with my 300x, boat ran awesome until last pass back to the ramp and I hit an underwater object, got my skeg, propshaft and merc cleaver, could be alot worse.

No, I was at that piece of **** Berlin Lake, I've ran there for 10 years without so much as a scratch and after finally getting this thing running great, this *&^%& happens, oh well, I could be like Wildman and Modvp22 and lost alot more than I did, I'll survive, Kevin

Hey Kevin,
Keep a sharp eye on your upper mounts. I've heard of a few 300's falling off and the only thing left on the boat is the tiller arm WITH the upper mounts still attached!!! There is a pathetic 1/8" lip that holds the mounts from coming through the front of the exhaust plate. I just made a modified version of the Land & Sea steering V-brace to fit my 300x. It ties the front powerhead studs to the tiller arm.
Be safe!

I'm not familiar with Land and Sea's brace, I would sure like to see yours.

Here's a shot of the cap that holds the top of the upper mounts. I don't know why they put a groove around the lip. Looks like it's just waiting to break.

Here's the exhaust plate. You can see where mine has been welded cause one side broke already (with the previous owner)

Here's the Land and Sea's 2.4 / 2.5L steering brace and my first attempt at a 3.0L brace. I didn't like the look and made one exactly like the L&S one (just a little wider and a tad longer to fit the 3.0L)

Here's my final version not polished yet (left) the L&S (middle) and the first attempt (right)

I ran on that lake once!!
I ran my Vixen aground in the middle of the lake on Laber Day weekend once. That was the last time I ever went there to boat.

OUCH!!!!
I think anyone with a altered mid should make up a strap from the l/u studs to the powerhead studs OR from the upper motor mount bolts to the lower mount bolts. Stainless sheet metal is very thin and would fit between the mount and the bracket at each end. Like one on each side. Also make sure the snap ring is tight on the tiller arm tube at the bottom.

Yea, I think too much!:p
