OK, well ive decided im buying a boat from the states very soon, hopefullly within the next week. My question is how do i bring it back across the boarder, do i need any papers or anything. Plus the trailer its on is not registered(its really old), is this a problem. I know a few of you out there have done this, and I deffenintly dont want any problems coming back. If the trailer is a problem I could mabey use my fibertron trailer, but that would be a big pain. Thanks
Bryan
If Geoff reads this, he can help you. He learned a ton about bringing a boat across the border.

Piece of cake. bring receipt, clear title, and credit card. that's what i did and the girl at the border even filled out the forms. did not have to see a broker.. pay the taxes, claim trailer as homemade they give you a form for inspection ( can be done at crappy tire ) they fill it out, return it and give you the sticker. very very easy. don't even hesitate if you find what you want.
good luck,
Kevin

There is also a surcharge for importing the trailer. Over and above the taxes. Same as a car. $180.00.
If the trailer is more than 15 years old you are exempt from that inspection program , when i brought one across thats what they told me. I guess as long as the title or sticker on the trailer says its older than that you are ok.

done it many times- project boat, as long as it looks like it will be a none issue- have a bill of sale signed by you and the seller and a contact #-even better if it is a dealer as you can get an invoice- you will pay pst and gst on the canadian equivalent. I have brought boats with and without registration- it helps in legitimizing the transaction-however it will not stop you from bringing the boat in-from the mouth of canada a customs agent-we want the tax $$$- you will have to fight it out with the province to register it without an old registration-the irony of it all is that once you get the customs papers the province is not questioning anything- as far as the trailer, they may or may not remember to charge you. infact the second last boat we brought in they forgot to charge us the PST and the $180 trailer duty-we had a bill of sale that looked like a used **** ticket and no registration for the boat or trailer- very simple transaction- good luck

Thaw Ripper, i wanted your boat but im unsure about doing a core replacement. If you would have wanted that motor as a trade i would probably be on my way done right now. The boats not blue, its green i think, I have a post up about it right now. Vector question. Theres a few more around, but next weekend im driving somewhere and buying one of these darn boats, just not sure which one. Thanks to everyone whos responded!!
