Are a SUPER piece as Mike is in the aircraft business and is up on all the latest aircraft grade alum. alloys. These foil has been tested on some of the quickest boats around and have evolved to the present piece. The one listed is clear powdered coated but they can be coated to all the new wild colors with any logo or graffic applyed and clearcoated over the whole piece.
Give Mike a call @ 1 615 330 7931 Tenn. time you won't be sorry !

Hey Jay:
I've worked with Mike and he makes great plates. He and I cooked up a custom ride plate (attached to the jack plate, not motor) for my Quarter Master. It really calmed the boat down on hard N20 launches. I'm also using one of his older whale tails in conjuction with the ride plate.
His newest whale tail shown above is real slick. You'll notice that all Mike's whale tails mount very far forward on the cavitation plate. I don't like shrouding the propeller with aft mounted plates, as I think it puts the prop in a hydrodynamic bind, and hurts top end RPM and speed. Mike agrees and designs his plates accordingly.
He's a good guy, and has a very nice product:D !

STeve;)

I see the current design is different than the one I purchased last year. Mine has wings that bend down at about a 45% angle from the flat plate. It also doesn’t extend forward as far.
It is a nice piece. Unfortunately on my Valero it didn’t work as well as the Atwood wing that was on it. So I went back to the Atwood hydro-stabalizer.

What would this help on a Mirage River Racer wid a 260. I've seen them but don't much on them. Also, about how much they cost too?

Steve,
Your boat is fairly large and would benefit from any increase in foil
area, regardless of brand. I'm using the same small foil you had from Mike on my race boat and it works fine, BUT, I'm using it in conjunction with a large ride plate, and my boat is smaller and lighter than yours. If you had Mike's newer plate with the scoops and larger surface area, it would work much better on your application.
Waterboy,
These plates are designed to alleviate excessive bowrise during off plane to on plane transition, which is more of a problem on tail heavy boats like skiboats, bass boats and heavy horsepower race boats. The weight distribution on a race style boat like yours where the fore/aft balance is more toward the bow, usually doesn't need as much tail lift on acelleration. BUT, it will allow you to run less negative tuck from off plane to on plane, which usually results in better out of the hole acelleration.

Steve;)

Thanks Steve Z. for the responce, I just got the boat and haven't drove it but twice, I'll keep it in mind, it comes out of the hole pretty good now.

Here's the link to a website that Mike helps with, www.bulletowners.com . Click on Mike's Foils.
He may have units for 3 litre Mercs as they (225s/250XBs/250XSs/
300s) are becoming popular with the big bass boat crowd.
His sh-t works.

I build the foils in the pic's. They fit about any lower unit, Merc-OMC-Yammi. Built from T6 Alum--laser cut--powder coated with nylon washers between the foil and cav plate to prevent chafing. Been working with Steve Z and Eric for some time to get all this right. Have tried several different foils and built several different types for use on my boat and Eric's boat. So far this seemes to be the best I can come up with after 4 years of playing with these things. The Triad foil gave me the idea of just a tunnel. The wing's on the triad seem to give to much surface area to heavier boat's and cause them to drag very badly out of the hole. I played around with the Ally foil and it work's well but seemed to slip a lot of water off the sides that was needed for lift. Of course I didnt invent the hydrofoil, just trying to make it a little better. Much thanks to all the people who have given me some good ideas. I have only two brain cells and if they dont work together I could have never built anything. LOL
Thanks Jay,Eric,Greg,Tim for all the good support.

Thanks for the info Steve, GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Redbullet, so on a bassboat you think that the foil in the picture (that you make) will add to much drag.
I am also running a skid plate that I made. So far with what I have tested on the skid plate and the modified foil I installed it really seems to help out of the hole. (not a lot of testing, but what little I have done so far it seems to help).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
The attached piture shows the skid plate I made, I do not have the foil on in this picture. As you can see it is a tunnel (21 liberator bassboat).

No I think the Triad foil puts to much drag on a bass boat. My foil works great except on heavier bass boats--Ranger,Gambler ect.

His is a little different I've seen it. There are a lot of foil ideas out there. I went Jasper and you see a lot of different things bolted on to boats there for sure. I dont think the ultimate foil has been designed yet. I'm also sure I'm not smart enough to build it. This is just a hobby for me. I spent many years in the aircraft business and I'm in the metal fab business now. I build a lot of accessories for the Hummer. Dealing with the Gov is a lot of fun.LOL

I've seen ALL the foils out there... I have to say, nothing compares to Mike's foil... Nothing. I'm working on the article, which will have many pictures and a test.. Yes, a test with MY boat!
Thanks Mike, for making such a great product. I can't tell you how much I kept staring at this thing - it's a work of art that works!

I to say it is a GREAT Piece of work and I Thank You very much for telling me up front that you think for the bass boats that it will not work. That is GREAT Customer Service.
THANKS AGAIN

So it sounds like this unit wouldn't work well with a heavier boat like my 20' Checkmate Enchanter. Does anyone have an idea what would be a good unit for a boat like this?

Guys:
What I think Mike is saying, is that his foil will work fine on larger boats. I've seen it work on tail heavy 20' and 21'10" Bullets with
3.0 litre Mercs, Yamahas, and BMCs. That's about as big and heavy an outboard you're going to get, unless you're into twins on an offshore.
What he meant was the Triad plate was too big for a heavy, non-
race hull. The Triad plate works fine on light drag hulls, particularly
the DR20.
His foils work best when combined with one of his "skid plates".

Steve;)

Mike I received your foil today and have not put it on yet. Will put on this weekend for sure. Your foil is a piece of art. Should do the trick for my operation. Thank's again for such quality work. Jay Smith wasn't wrong about your workmanship on this foil.

Has anyone tried on of these on a light weight STV? We tried a product that worked too well. The back end of the boat could not drop enough for the prop to bite. It gave about a 1000 rpm over
rev. It allso lost quite a bit of the top end speed. Although it did not stick out past the motor cavitation plate.
