I had one break and will never get in another high performance boat with one. Look up the part # for a 97 200. makes the hair stand up on my arms to this day thinking about that.

They never made a 94 225 carb 2.5 in 94, that was a 3.0 225.

My engine has the large tiller arm, and another aftermarket bracket that bolts to the sides of the mid, and connect to the tiller arm with the bolt that also connects the steering links. I have a couple of other mids with the small tiller arm. I was wondering if they would be strong enough if they had the aftermarket bracket on them. This aftermarket bracket looks strong enough to do the job without the tiller arm.

Quicksilver, you have a photo of the aftermarket bracket? Where did you get it? I was just thinking about making some kind of bracket as a safety measure.
Thanks,

i am probably off a little on description of mid on my engine but its for sure that it didnt come with a 260 on top of it.having a boat with a fast outboard in california is like riding a jap bike on a harley run.i was web surfing for boat parts one night and i saw a website with that brace on it but i cant relocate the website.with a proper grade bolt on tiller arm if something broke you would probably have sloppy steering instead of no steering.i am changing over to offshore mid this winter after more money is saved up .tiller arm would need an aircraft type of bolt -shank is smooth with precise fit and threads are at bottem of shank not contacting moving parts.2 people got hurt with a broken tiller arm in my area a few years back.havent heard complete story.

O/B Dude, there was a post a few weeks back that showed a bracket for the long/skinny tiller arm. Was that your thread Quicksliver? I'm very interested in such a bracket. I got a taste( a bad one too) of what would happen if a arm broke at 55mph this past summer when my buddy was driving my boat, he went to grab his hat that just blew off with one hand and the steering wheel broke loose of his grip. The boat did a full 360 on the pad! Scared the **** out of both of us!

A little food for thought... This type of steering system dosen't use the tiller arm and is much stronger.

Land and Sea sells those. Its called a V-lock steering stabilizer. I couldnt find it in their on-line catalog but I saw it in the printed catalog.

I called Land and Sea. They no longer make this part so I guess I need to make one.
try latham marine,(expensie but top quality) i have used their stuff on a lot of the race boats ive worked on in the uk, never had a problem, unlike sea star etc, systems where ive seen hoses come out of fittings on the ram and loss of controll at 70 + mph. !!!!

I bought Land and sea's last one a few years back.
It sounds like you have a '84 2.4 225 not a '94. The tiller arm Phast boat shows looks like it will work. The '84 & '85 fishing motors had the single ram like the hp ones. In '86 they went to the internal trim system and shortly after that went to the wider tiller. The internal trim tiller arms have the cast part run down the tube almost 2" where yours doesn't. Get a tiller arm for a hp motor and it will fit your swivel bracket. I know because I did it to mine. Put new bushings and seals in while you're at it and you'll be fine.
