Okay guys we need to see if we can get this off the ground. we want to set this up. but we need some input on where we everyone wants to do this and what kinda format. so far the thinking is top speed takes all cash. two classes, V-hull and tunnel. I could scrap up enough cash to have plauqes made for the top three of each class. we are thinking earlie next year sometime between early feb to early may. here is what H2O nut just posted on the other thread I brought it here to get a clean list started on who wants to help and who wants to run for the dough. so far it's up to $250 we could use more.

<H2O Nut>
SO

Myself and JR have been PM'ing each other on what format, what went wrong at last event, what was right and what will be.

A few open items

Pay for the top dog or pay the top 3 with 60% to 1st 25% 2nd 15% of the kitty to 3rd...OR

Just pay the man with the highest number ???

------------------------------------------------------------

What if there is a tie ?????

---------------------------------------

What we know

Helmets and life jackets A MUST !!!!!!!!!!! no exceptions...period

It will be in FLORIDA !

Until we see a few people throwing cash and actuel competitors show interest.....no date will be announced.

So far hot shot 200 Me 50 = 250 $$$ commited so far.

I am sure Lamar will throw in an ACTION pic of the victor for Free.

If I was a lil more talented I would make a trophy,we shall see what I come up with.

Would need a few BUDS, friends, compadres' to help with rescue, and keeping track of speeds and logging said speeds.

Markum Park ?
Kissimmee River / boot lip ridge
St Johns in the loc where the SS EOS blowout hotel ???

Pipe up.............

Let the smack begin...

C'mon yankees the water is warm down here even in winter..hehehe

well let the games begin..

NO WHINING !

now to clearify and bring some other points made to this thread.

we want this grass roots, redneck racing, bet among buddies sort of thing! means we don't want to sanction it, no venders no, stands for fans. this cuts down on planing and liablity. I really want to do this at markham park in fort lauderdale. it's a perfect place for speed runs. there is camping at the park. and hotels nearby. alot of the guys who went for it last year are in the area. however the lake O rim canals are more in the middle of tha state. but i cant vouch on how good the running there is and how we could all get a hotel or campground that could hold all of us at once.

****, that was enough to get me down right there! If I can get someone to cut my cleaver down a bit I'll give it a whirl, next queston, when? Hopefully sometime after santa comes around? Might be able to bring a "ringer"!;)

i got the hookup at anglers motel and the tiki bar spots in clewiston, i could get us a good rate at both motels. bar within 1 block of the 2 motels, and there is a site for campers and for tents- if you are so inclined.

let me know, jim

Synshine Sydicate shootout is awesome and i was thinking along those lines but thought i should contact the syndicate Godfather first. we never speak for the family with out consulting the gadfather first!

thats anothere thing camping does make it a little cheaper than a hotle besides, a bunch of the campsite are on the water. and at that time of year it will be in the low 70's

i dare say i could get a 25% discount at the motel- mary ann martin is kinda "funny" about that sometimes. but either way, i can commit to do some helping out keeping score, seeing as how unbiased i am against certain factions of people (cough omc) lol :D

It looks like it narrows down to CLewiston or markum park,,, i imagin Ft lauderdale would be more $$$$$ for lodging and leaving a boat on a trailer at a hotel in lauderdale ..hmmmmmm

Out in the booonies O Yeah, We will put warrens pits on PROP GUARD DUTY. ( ( ( ( -:

as much as it's so far south I'm gonna say we should do this at markham. the boat traffic is so minimal. there are only a few ski boats and jets skis but they stay to the south end. a few basser go into the back canals. but mostly not a whole lot of traffic. especially when the temp drops. there will be a whole lot less traffic out there. and with the berm and trees. wind is minimal.no current. and the highway is the closest place for people. so no complaints about the noise. on top of that it is at an intersection between I-75, the sawgrass, and I-595. and I-95 has a merge lane to I-595 and it's only 10-15 minutes away from the park.
heres a link to a map

If you do it earley in the year,Jan-march,The big "O"will be full of fishermen, they are every year, same with Kissimmee.markam park probably would be a better choice. Muke T.

Jay R.
10-22-2003, 06:53 PM
so the winter is a big fishing time for lake O?? didn't think of that.

as for markham, jim you'll like this. the have a designated R/C boat lake, an R/C airfield with 500ft airstrip. a moutain bike trail through the woods thats like a BMX course. and a shooting range that also has a 20 stage sporting clays range.

How are yall going to slide this under the radar if it's at a parck with all those other things goingon?Dont you have to have some kind of permit to gather at such a place?

Airboater
10-22-2003, 07:09 PM
Dont need to get it to far south that the northern boys wount want to come. The rim canal in Clewestion is a good central location for the south Fl boys but I'm just coming to watch.

either way, doesnt matter to me. but the reasons i say clew- small town, fun, cheap to stay in, away from a city that is a pain in the ASS to tow a boat in, bar close to ramp and motels, 6 boat ramps- 4 inside 2 outside, bar close to motel, avgas about 3 blocks away, bar, not much boat traffic this time of year (tourneys are generally non existant from nov. to feb.) i will take some pics tomorrow.

Corona Mike

Most of the fishermen you see at the big o or Kissimmee that time of year are trophy fishermen,a lot of them use local guides who have a bad habit of complaning about everything but other trophy fishermen and fellow guides.Their season usually ends mid-march.I like the idea about some type of plack. Mike T.

Airboater
10-22-2003, 07:32 PM
What about the area on the south side of Kissim west of Broma Island where they race the airboats.

Jay R.
10-22-2003, 07:33 PM
heres an idea i just got.
since the drag racers from alva (RRRevinrude, and they guy that hate OMC, i can't remember his screen name) are talking about a drag in the rim canal. already let that happin there in clewiston, or where ever else on the rim calnal they are talking and the speed run happin in markham.
why is ft. lauderdale a pain to tow in. you would just come straight down I-75 and get off in weston. then drive the 1-2 miles down state rd. 84 to the gate. easy as can be. as for the permit. we arn't an offical club. and the canal is outside of the park grounds. they just have 2 sets of ramps getting onto the water.
a big set with 4 ramps on st.rd. 84 and a small set with 2 ramps on the back canal. for all they know 40 guys rented camp graound on the same weekend with boats.

if this looks like a go for markham I'll go down there this weekend and start talking about it.

Jay R.
10-22-2003, 07:38 PM
as for prizes. can we get some of the busness on here to donate some prizes? gift certificates? maybe LPB would like to throw in something as a "no hard feelings" sort of thing! besides this was their idea last time! diamond marine is down south maybe they could contribute something.

Hot Shot Merc
10-22-2003, 07:44 PM
just a reminder that some of the guy's who would run for the money are'nt active screamand fly members and probably wont give any input on this. They usualy just show up or will contact you by phone if at all. They need along cool down erea after makeing a fast pass. This place would have to meet those requirments.Does the drag war have to be at the same rally as the top speed shoot out?remember drag set up's are much diferent than an all out speed setup. It's more than just changeing out your prop if your serious about either one.Just some thing's to think about:)

Jay R.
10-22-2003, 07:50 PM
well, im gonna make some calls tonight about a few i know who might just show up.
the set up change is part of why i suggested cleweston for the drag races. since they are already talking about it on the alva thread.

and for cool down.....
warren, flyaway, dennis, freddie and many more make blistering passes there almost every weekend. I've seen warren doing 127MPH passes in the very back of the canal. there ar two spots on the canal that would work. one we would really be left alone and one has a beach... the beach is about dead center of the canal. so if we could pull this of there, we would have about 3-4 miles to get up to speed then 3-4 miles to cool down. I'll map it this weekend with my GPS to be sure of that.

H2Onut
10-22-2003, 08:31 PM
I would like to take a WAIT AND SEE approach, let s see some pics of both sites and then hope one of us gets ontacted by someone interested in running, warren has my number, parker will talk to his boys...lets see if we get any input for those guys. I I am still leaning towards clewiston, just out of the urban sprawl... either place will be fine. But lets see if one pace will drraw more people than the other.....

10-22-2003, 09:09 PM
I was at markhem park and watched some of these guys make some fast runs. the only thing that makes me nervous is that there is no room for error. you could throw a rock across this river. 1 mistake and you'll be eating trees and dirt. other than that its awesome. long straight runs and flat all the time. if you pick a date around a holiday I may come down with the boat. I would have to make a family trip out of it and visit some relatives.

Well guy's Markham is a great place for some top end passes, Dennis, Blow-over (Bob), Warren, and even Frank's 16' Action have all run there best speed's on this canal, so I'm sure they would love to have it there. I've only been to the Rim canal once to watch some Drag races they had there in the late 80's but I was not in the water so I dont how long it is. I know these guy's will be ready to try and hit some 130's for ya and you won't be disappointed to see the Action run in the V-bottom class.

Frostman
10-22-2003, 10:12 PM
markem park is skinny Just ask Bob . Clewiston is a great place ,hotels are great at the fish camp plenty of parking nice grass yard for dockracing, tiki bar .and it doesent cost a ton of money to have fun

Jay R.
10-22-2003, 10:47 PM
thank god someone else chimed in for markham i was starting to feel lonely.

the big thing im looking at is that markham is great for speed runs. ya can't run up river like we did at alva, but blistering fast fly bys are easily made there!

but if everyone wants location over conditions, or can find a spot on the rim canal thats straight and safe I'm all for it!

Airboater, the only problems with the back side of Brama Isl.is if the wind blows the wrong direction it gets ROUGH,and there isn't anywhere to get out of it.If we were looking at a placr around the south end of Kissimmee,I would suggest the river south of the HY.60 lock--behind River ranch.I tend to agree with most on Marcum park,I know Freddy,Warren,Franky,Blow over Bob etc put up some killer #'s there. The only advantage to the rim ditch or Kissimmee river is width. All areas long, straight, with no current.Plus, lets be honest,In Florida, with the exception of Frostman, the guys who could get close to 130 live down there and come to ANY get together we have, there was 5 of them last weekend at Alva--including Big Bobby P.Maybe its time we go to their back yard to watch them run.Plus if the weather gets to windy,We arn't but a couple of hrs.from the KEYS!It doesn't matter to me,I'll be there. Mike T.

Jay R.

just to check!

so basically everone is cool with the 2 class set up.

GPS only speed mesurment. and the plaque for top three with winners in both taking the prize (unless we get mulitable gift certifacate offers, and can spread them out)

we are down to clewiston and markham, unless more places get offered.

what about when this should take place? I'm thinking sometime in February, H2O Nut was suggestion a little later, Around March April i think... Any suggestions?

How bout Prize offerings..... does anyone know anybody at any of the busnesses that are used and advertised here and can talk to somebody about prizes?? I personally think that the prize bit is a little much. when LPB threw it up as a challenge that was one thing. ya kow comming from a company. but a bunch of buddies getting together to see who's fastest is something different. the $250 offered is from 2 fellow S&F'rs who are trying to get this started not from bussnesses, and the plauqes would be on me, if i can afford them.. this is grass roots type stuff here lets not expect too much!

this has to be more for bragging rights than cash!!

After the first of the year the winds pick up in florida.I clean pools for a living and that is the worst time of year for debris caused by windy days. Also I think that there should only be prize money for the fastest boat of each class not second and third place.I have a feeling that most people wont dig down deep into ther pockets and that we will be lucky to have $ 1,000.I think john from lightning posted before that he was good for $ 100.not sure though.Passing the hat at the parking lot the night before would be a great idea.Maybe another thread should be started to get the kitty going?A man's post of his donation should be enough and then we will collect at the gathering. Most will honor there word. If there is a tie then there will be a shoot out for the money?Just an idea:cool: The challenge for 130mph may not be the best idea.I think the highest speed from each ,v- bottum and tunnell should get the money??????

10-23-2003, 07:41 AM

Split Classes

WTF ??????????????

iT IS A TOP GUN SHOOT OUT, WHY SPLIT IT UP ?

They all run the same class, what an Allison cant run with an STV ...BS

IT is a Big number winner take all deal, it isn't a race, it is WHO IS THE KING... PERIOD

KISS keep it simple, Run what ya brung, who has the top # TAKES THE CASH ! THAT IS WHY I ? paying 1st 3 positions. then it eliminates the class deal.

next is WHEN, it is almost November,, turkey day, xmas hanauka
new years...

Skittles
10-23-2003, 08:33 AM
How about a class for 175 hp fishin motors:D :D :D . Then I can have some fun. Seriously though Clewiston gets my vote, and if its Markham........well then I'll be there.

Hot Shot Merc
10-23-2003, 08:38 AM
There's no way in hell that there will be the same number of guy's with v bottums as tunnell's running for the money in one class. There are a lot of people that have v bottums that would like to be called the fastest v bottum around. There is vertualy no compareing the two.I'll bet $ 5,000 that the fastest boat will be a tunnell. The v- bottums generaly arent as fast .This is not to cut on v bottums but its a fact.Whats so wrong with haveing two class's.Who has an Allison in the state of florida that goes even close to 120 mph??? I dont know of any with the exeption of an O.D.B.A DRAG RACER in the unlimited class with close to 650 h.p.and that 's a race boat that doesnt count here.I ve only here'd of one that can do it and that was the guy that posted up north a couple month's back.I'ts your deal but it's wat everyone wants.I say the fastest v- bottum will be Frank Palermo at about 115 or so???

Is this a Lake Boat only thing? Are you letting Racce Boats in? How are you going to decide what's a true Race boat, and what's a Lake Boat?

G, I think there should be two classes. Alot of the boat on here are fast. Its gonna take a deep pocket for some of the Vees to keep up with the tunnels. That way in my opinion is too competitive. If its two classes Ill come down to run. Ill throw in $100 to the kitty.

G-Train
10-23-2003, 10:02 AM
Hot Shot...don't get upset and drop out. They were just looking to see what most wanted. I probably won't be able to make it anyway, but was just giving input on my opinion. If most want 2 classes, maybe they'll go that way.

I wasn't looking to add true race boats either, rather keep them out.

H2Onut

One class for One reason...it keeps it simple.

ANother reason is $$$$$$$$$$

to attract a large amount of participants...welll $$$ talks.

If the kitty is BIG enough thans so be it...what we got so far

350.00 split that it's 175 for each:confused: and that is including your donation unless you are withdrawing that as well ???

Ya want two classes ??? then so be it, BUt.... handing a guy who just broke a buck thirty a check for under 500.00 is embarrising.

Nothing in stone yet and tempers are already flaring...

GEEEEEEZ YA FREAKING WEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

this is a FUN event, not a pissin match!

My email link is valid, my PM's work, if ya want to bitch , send it to me direct and keep it off the thread ...PLEASE.
I just dont want to see and ill feelings from anyone, especially my syndicate and S&F brothers.

Mike

PS I have set up 2 polls, 1 for date, 1 for place, I will add a 3rd for
split classes into 2 yes TWO only two.

We shall let the masses point us in the direction and tweek from there.

My donation still stands and where do you get the notion that I'm bitching?I gave my sugjestions as did other people and all I got was a big WTF??????????????Its a very valid point tha I am trying to make. Also It just getting started so dont count out any more money for the pot.It will go way beyond $ 500. just be patient and maybe start a thread for the donation money or something seperate like that. The slower v bottum guy's have little chance of ever hitting anything close to 130 so i thought it would be cool to give them a chance to have some glory of there own.I thought yall asked for input.I just dont like getting shot down so soon I guess.Continue on my freinds, for I'm allready over my little tiff.:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :

sometime in january is going to be the best, i talked to my hookup today, she says we definately have a stocked bar, and a good discount on the motel. if we let her know a month ahead of time we can have some hotties working the tiki bar on our weekend. she also suggested a buffet cookout type deal one night while we are there. make your own plate for $x kinda thing. i have a bunch of stuff we can do, we just need to set a date.

NO GUN NO RADAR, need to read the ENTIRE thread.

10 minutes with 2 gps units, it is the average of the 2 units tops speed that is your speed of record. No angle of deflection no bs.

the GPS are judge and jury. end of story.

Jay R.
10-23-2003, 12:27 PM
well, nut and i have decided this time we we only use GPS. just not sure if we will use multible or just one. let them run and check the max speed at the end. and clear it between runs. super simple and can't argue about angles and such.

Well i talked to the powers that be earlier and makham is out. the was an accident earlier this year involving a "speed" boat and they are afraid of more accidents. I told them irt was just a gathering and they don't care. becuase they still know people will run fast. they don't mind the occasional weekend run out there but this is out. sorry guys. looks like clewiston is in the lead. I just hope the running there is as good as markham. :(

ok first we need to get a date set in stone. now nut you remember the girl i told you about- well she is the one who is taking care of the tiki and the motel for me. I need to take her out to lunch aGain and possibly give her a hot dog ;) he he he i definately can get a discount on the motel, now all we need to do is get the support for this thing.

another thought is, why not charge a $20 entry fee for the v drivers, and a $20 fee for the tunnel guys. then you could split the donated money down the middle and give each class its own purse. if there is 50 boats in a class that is $1000 i know i am kinda thinking big, but when you spend on average $200 bucks a week on a boat, what is another 20 bucks? not much.

jim

1BadAction
10-23-2003, 08:21 PM
also- if someone say, blows a l/u and has a spare, or can fix it, let him pay another $20 to run for 10 more minutes, limit it to 2 tries. some **** may happen to someone once. this is how we do drags at the 1/8th when we are racing for money, and the guys love it cause the kitty gets huge.

H2Onut
10-23-2003, 08:35 PM
Some good logic as far as entry fees..BUt if we make the drivers pay to enter, then it is an event, then alot of red tape comes with it , rather than being a bootlegged deal.

We will pass the hat around and sweeten the pot at the event. I HOPE... we will put parker in a wig and g-strang and have him dance for all the old ladys in town... should get an extra $5.00 !

Give her a SALAMI, not a hot dog ;) Looks like late Feb early march would be the timeline... Before the spring break **** starts to happen.

I figure about 8-12 in tunnels and 10-12 V botttoms running for the doe.

As far as the magazine stuff Ill see what I can do, I dont really have much pull in matters like that, but letters to the editor never really hurt for things like that:rolleyes:

its gonna be another day that we are fighting wakes- just like it was in alva, everytime we got our wakes down enough to run, one of those big ass barges was coming thru. it is the main route for boats to cross florida! clewiston is loaded up with tourneys feburary. the EAST COAST ASSHOLES that think their shyte dont stink because they own a ranger/triton/storm with a 250 wouldnt budge on a date- even tho i asked them 2 weeks before they put out their schedule. call me and i'll tell you how i really feel about them... i am going hunting for info now, i'll keep you posted.

i think the north end of the lake, or the camp mac area is going to be the best bet. not much big boat traffic there like there is anywhere else.

ApolloImaging
01-01-2004, 11:31 AM
Awhile back at African-American ridge we had some issues with the cops because people were bitching that boats were going too fast and racing through the canals. But in the area there are alot of other good canals and stuff

Airboater
01-01-2004, 01:07 PM
Kissimmi River Didnt Skip get a ticket for having to much air under the boat:D The mouth of the canal isnt a good spot too many bassers and airboats cuttin across or turning in without looking for trafic.

1BadAction
01-01-2004, 04:10 PM
the f with ortona and morehaven, #1 was in morehaven today, there was 15 boats in the 3 mile stretch from the bridge west. #2 there is no place to beach the boats or dock for at leats 5 miles up river. #3 the ramp in morehaven doesnt have enough parking. #4 morehaven will have the real cops out there fast if they see racing- after a guy got killed there about 8 years ago they want no racing of any kind near the city limits. No boat traffic in the river? get a grip, that river is like a big damn shipping channel, as we saw during our alva event. with no docks thats going to be a pain in the ass. also, there isnt **** on the water for food or drink, unless you run 10 miles or so down river.

clewiston, pros: there is no tournaments in clewiston the 13th, 14th or the 15th (friday sat, and sunday) of febuary. i have seen 1 watercop in the last 10 times i have been there. boatwakes, there is some, but BIG BOATS DONT GO TO CLEWISTON WHEN THE ROUTE TO THE GULF IS RIGHT THROUGH MOREHAVEN AND ORTONA. There is plenty of places to put your boat in clewiston, 200 yards of grassy beach in the boat basin, low dock behind the tiki bar and rolands, or do what i do and park it in the lily pads on the side of the rim canal, which hurts the boat the least out of anything. Stores resturants and bars right on the water, motel is right by the boat ramp. everything you need is right there. also if anybody needs a skeg welded up or replaced, or a hole in aluminum fixed, i can get into the shop. mig, tig, heli-arc, hand plasma cutter. about 5 blocks from the motel.

cons: can get windy and rough with a NW or SE wind. Locks may be a pain in the ass. (but they should be open by mid january) they were open today...

Jay R.

I'm thinkin a lawn chair and a cooler of beer for me:p
Way to go Nut and Jay for taking the ball and runnning with it on this.
These get togathers are a blast but way more work than most can imagine.
If we can make it down, I'll volunteer as a "grunt" if you need me.

naa f no, run expansion chambers right out the exhaust port, whatever, remember there is a 50 foot tall levee between civilization and the boats. alot of the east coast boys that run the allisons, bullets, and the like bass boats run pro maxes with no cans, and the inboard drag guys run open headers, not to mention the airboaters :D

jay r. i plan on running this weekend, if i dont get the cowling pan in by thursday, i will make my own deal to hold the lower pan on the motor. so i will be there. and i posted a s load of pics of the place. i'll get the links...

Where is it? When is it?
Is there one or two classes?
Is it top dog or 1st three in each class?

I would like to see two classes, and 1st three in each class.
By the way, where do I fit in with a Vegas XT? "V" class?

It's more about spreading the bragging rights around a little, very few can run the really big #'s so at least I can fantasize about getting lucky this way with my new BL Super Looper:D

I'm gonna have both boats there but neither will be up for taking that cash  but it's should be fun to see and be a part off.
should try to make this an annual or even semi annual thing. with classes. just for fun deal and braggin rights. no money though. i think that really cheapins the deal to say that you won't run cause your friends won't pay you too. besides these guys love showin off. look at parkers wheelies and warrens speed runs!!

gator... what are you waiting for???
stick a sign out front that says for sale on you way ut the door! it's not that hard!!

Parker, Ken lives about 2 hrs South of me and I pass his place on my way to your part of the "hood".
Stopping long enough to hitch up the trailer, grab him and haul ass!!
We're stopping at "Bass Anglers Inc." on the way down and picking up a casting chair.
We figure with a zip gun and a few dry wall screws, we're good for two classes;)
Actually, the boat is in Austraila preparing to up his own record:eek:

Was just getting ready to look into air fare when I rememberd that is the second weekend (was there last weekend too) I am required to be in Virgina on business!!!:( :( :(
Man I hate when work gets in the way of my boating!!
I'm thinkin now we could be the people you see living the half sunken boats sitting on the bottom near all the major Fla harbors!!
I'm still in for my $50. to the kitty though.
Sorry guys, was really looking forward to coming down and observing/helping out.
Not sure where Clewiston is but you might try and sucker Neveredge into bringing his dads pontoony for an observation platform.
Here's a tip too that we learned at the Rumble for the GPS runs. BRING BATTERIES!!!
Every one thinks they're good and none of them are!! We had to re-run several people just for that reason.
I know my $100. Garmin will only last a few hours on one set of batteries!!
Get a dozen AA's keep your reciept and return them if you don't need them.
It sucks to have a guy go lay it all on the line and come back to shore and see ablank screen oh his GPS!! (needs gas, hurts a motor etc)
Way cool idea guys and I think this should become an annual event!!
I want to get down there and build something to play!!
Here's something else. Unless they have a big enough turn out to where they don't have time to run the slower boats, run everything!!
You guys with the 80/90/100 MPH boats--- run em!!
I would have stood in line all day to be able to GPS my 98 MPH Hydrostream at the Rumble if I'd have had the time to do it!!
It killed me at Rumble II all the **** talkers that sat on the bank and waited for the first fast guy to run and then said "well he's faster than me". SO WHAT!!
Laser Mod Vee ran his 86 MPH (I think) 24' Skater when G-Train had already run 118!! He still had a blast!!
Anyhow, sad to say I caint make it and I am bummed!!
Gary:(
