I know, there were so many boats you couldnt even get them all in one pic. there had to be at least 60. anyone get a head count. I had an awesome time. Im glad everyone lived through all the mishaps dispite all the busted fiberglass that went on.

We had 60 boats signed in at Haddam Meadows (we probably missed a few ) We picked up at least a dozen more on the river .
Anybody who didn't sign in please post here or get in touch with me .
The Mouse Boat , the 36' Spectre , the Stealth Jet and the turbine boat seemed to draw the most attention . Check out the turbine at www.turbineboat.com
I'll post who was there in a few days.

I have no first hand details, but two boats had major damage during the event. One Hydrostream hit debris in the water and sank. A 19' Action stuffed it in a cruiser wake. He got the worst damage, partial hull/deck seperation and sank, the driver took a trip to the hospital. The idiotic news media around here can only report "BOAT SMASHED IN HUGE WAVES ON CT RIVER!!!!!!" No driver name, what his injuries were, or anything else you would really want to know. I don't believe either was a racing accident. Just **** luck. Pics of the Action at www.wtnh.com Hope everybody is OK. I had a blast yesterday and I would hate to think anybody got hurt. Rich Owen should be applauded for his efforts.

The "Cool Factor" at the river run is always top notch. Sick ass boats and some really sick people that build these boats. The mouse, the turbine CVX Glastron and all the other top notch builders for many arenas were well represented. The Few I can think of:
Hydrostream, Skater, STV , Mirage, Allison, Action, Laser, HTM, Warlock, Spectre, Superboat, Talon, DCB

I have to plow through my pictures and I have enough to play name that bottom with for fun hehehe.

I've been to all 5, and this is my favorite one yet. As usual, the weather held up and we all had a great time. Thanks to Rich, Warren, Russ, and all those who provided their river, their pizza place, their beach, grills, burgers and help to those in need.

Here are some pics that I took.

You can see all the water rushing out the bow. I was going to get the camera and I missed it while it was under water. I was wondering how they got the engine trimmed up after the battery was submerged?

Art's 18 Skater, what a great resto. Mack from Mack the Knife did a beautiful paint job on this.

I particularly liked his trailer - he coated the entire thing with Rhino truck bedliner and sealed the hollow steel with a fill and drain plug for oil. That'll be the trailer for that boat for life. Why don't they ever do that from the factory?

Nice wood boarding step too, custom made.

The boat off to the right was Art's 18 Skater last year before Mack got his hands on it. The 21 Skater left is Mack's.

Regarding the busted fiberglass

Carl's V-King had a large chunk of the bottom torn out . Maybe a log ? The boat took on water too fast to make it to shore . He stood on the windshield frame (!) with the bow straight up in the air until some boats came to his aid and towed him to shore .

Scott's Action hit some cruiser wakes and ended up wrong side up . Scott's friend Jason picked him up and then towed the boat to a ramp close by . Scott went to the hospital to be checked out and later returned to the ramp a little after dark .

Wayne hit a cruiser wake and tore a chunk out of the bow . As he took on some water friends picked up his sons . Wayne stayed with the boat while he was towed 4 miles back to the ramp .

Many thanks to ALL the people who helped rescue these guys and get their boats out of the water !!!!!!

All these mishaps occured under 50 mph and racing was not involved .

Its rare seeing one of those IO hydrostreams but there were 2 of them. a red and a blue one. pretty cool. A hp 500 would be evil in that. Those waves, man...I caught some major air from a few of those passing mega cruisers too:eek: warren (wht allison ss) wasnt so lucky either. he torpedoed and tore his alien cowl right off along with the emblem on the front deck. I still consider him lucky. those was some "BIG" waves:eek: . the only right way to have approached those waves was to stop and wait.

I hit a couple of those at about 30 mph in the 21 Skater and went for a wild ride so I can see why some of the smaller boats got hurt.

How about a turbine vegas I/O ? I think the guy with the turbine said he paid 12K for that engine used. The engine is a c-18 allison that is used in jet ranger helicopters. It puts out 420 hp and hits the scales at 200 pounds. Add in the out drive and i think he is still lighter than an omc outboard or one of those 4 stroke nightmares. Howard arneson has been ueing them for years and he says the motor will wear out the bottom of the boat before it fails. MTT out of texas even put one on top of a merc midsection like yours.

Is that all the pics this year? Did I miss some somewhere? Rich said his pics will be posted on IHR this week.

Someone was in a family boat taking pictures of Mack and I doing passes, wish I could get a hold of those shots. I thought it was someone from the board out with a family boat but it looks like they just happened to be there...

Mike, I was watching you and Mack and was it me or were you spanking him? Looks like you really got that boat dialed in. A few other people noticed the same thing. Way to go!!!

I'm not sure which one is faster, I think it's a matter of whose fuel injectors get the fuel first. We have the exact same setup except my engine is a year newer. We even both have 30 Performance Propellers 4 blade semi cleavers, but he was running a 29 Perf. Prop. 4 blade that day. He says it runs even better with that.

One of those Alien Cowls Warren lost was mine off my Hydrostream. I almost lost it once myself, the latch system sucks on the 225 Pro Max. You really should put rubber straps on if you have a 225. The 300 has a front latch which holds alot better.

Liqui-Fly
10-29-2003, 11:45 AM
The latch system is still there.
