You found it on Charlie Williams' "CORE" site

It is one of 2 like it. Twister 2 front cut down to fit on a 66ci 4cyl with stacks from a BP. Raced as an 1100cc runabout, but now just a sawhorse queen........couldn't keep up with 150hp 700cc Königs & 60 ci Quincy Loopers

lilabner,

That sure is one cool looking 15C PowerCat !!! How did it run with the twin Merc stackers ?? Were the 800 or 850's ??

I have a 15C that I have been toying with the idea of putting twin Merc 1000's on.

DID THE STACKS MAKE THAT MUCH MORE POWER? ANYONE STILL HAVE A BOAT WITH THESE? KEEP EM COMING

I still have the Kitson, but it hasn't been cranked now in 3 years. It's louder than a pair of top fuel or funny cars and the neighbors complain when I crank it, even just sitting on the boat ramp.

The stacks do add top end power, but murder the bottom end.

I've got one more complete stacker engine. I'll try to take some decent, up close pics of it today and post em. Here's one the previous owner sent me before I bought it:

We ran A Power Cat 15 for the 1964 season and at the Nationals in 66...... with twin 1000's...stock lowers....tunnel tab. It turned like it was on rails.........handled pretty good and topped out at about 70 mph......

If I were you....I'd restore it......It'll get around Clayton better than a Wing. (Short Course)...and give you a neat toy for general playtime.

This was Chuck Mersereau's old JJ40 with 850's rigged at the Lake...bought by Booger Red Wahl ..who was a little spooked with it so he asked me...it ran about 80..real light at that speed..I did a dumb thing and chose 17" reverse rake Cary cleavers to run at altitude..never ran in the mountains before,,,could pass on the straights but bogged awful in the turns..got beat by a guy named Hill and someone else..ended third..they didn't have stacks..just brains...but I was definately cool...

I also ran a small bubble cat..about 15'..not the cut down 18' one with 1000 speedmasters..scary..Keller went past 80..would launch like a drag boat and you would go right over if you didn't pay attention..had to kind of feather it..was so worried about going over the right front sponson blew out and it nosed in around 75....

here's a pic of it and a few others from the Lake..

lilabner,

Interesting story and pictures. The 15C sure looks sweat with the twin 850's and speedmasters hanging on the back. I can't really to see the bottom two pictures, but it looks like the poor old 15C is missing a few parts and pieces past the dash, no ?? I guess you lived to tell about it. Did you get hurt ??

Any chance you could scan the pitures in individually ?? I sure would appreciate it :D

T2x,

Thanks for the advice. It sounds like the 15C's were good to around 60~70 MPH before bad things happened. Do you have any pictures of the one you raced ??

How's your wing coming a long ??

Thanks Danny..you are much better at pictures than I am...
That was Chucks Lake X test cat..I never saw him race it and don't know what became of it..it was yellow with a black deck and was set up for speed runs..notice no afterplane...he told me it ran over 80 but wouldn't say much else...Roy Ridgell may have rigged it with smaller motors later..that was the rumor...but he was a real jokester...

How fast was the tunnel with twins..they ran those when I was listening to 105's and 8 inch howitzers in a far away land...

They probably sounded as loud. I don't know how fast it was--I was only about 6 years old when that photo was taken.

Here's the one I found on the internet several years ago: (notice the $50. engine stand that bolts together backwards and makes a perfect outboard stand. With it's 1000 lb. capacity it's very sturdy.

I hate to post this picture because it's sideways and I don't know how to rotate it, but this is the view the V4 OMC's got of these engines:

Here's another sideways shot of the other side. There are some contradictions in this particular engine. The cowl is louvered as would've been on the Super BP, but shows BP stickers. It also has the std mid section. What I think I have here is a shortshaft 1340 with a stacker kit added that was intended for a 1250 BP and of course the SuperSpeedmaster added also. In any case, it's a neat engine and powers this engine stand real well.

Raceman, how thick are those megaphones?

They look a little thinner than the ones I've seen in person and in some other pictures?

Are they aluminum or steel? How about the headers that lead to the megaphones?

Raceman
10-16-2003, 10:29 PM
Sam, the megs themselves are stainless sheet metal and are just alike on all 3 of my stacker motors. The elbows appear to be stainless also, and the wings that strenghthen them from above and below appear to be tig welded with such a small, uniform bead that you almost can't see it. The ones on my Kitson look almost parkerized in the elbows, and the set on this engine are the first polished set of elbows I've seen.

"that's the exact same stand I use for my V8..amazing...same piece of wood too.."

Lil Abner, I bought about a half dozen of those stands when I got em. I think it was at Sam's. Most of em have a 3' piece of 2 X 12 bolted to em and have a pair of inline 6's on one stand. They're hard to beat for the money. I wish I'd gotten more, since I haven't seen em again.
