I got this off OSO, My best to his Family.
"Dennis Cavanaugh, who was very well respected & known throughout the Hi-Performance boating community for years, has passed away. He has worked with Mercury Marine for 31 years. He died as a result of severe head injuries he suffered after falling down a flight of stairs at his home on Thursday. He will be greatly missed for his warm, caring personality."

Really bad. I know Dennis well. He lives 30 miles from me in Oshkosh. He is the manager of the prop division at High Perf. He is a great human being. Always willing to help.
I have worked with him for years on the Balz to the Wall event. He is the driving force behind the prop testing we do at the event. Dennis would have a truckload of props made up for us to play with.
We have lost a great man in the boating industry. Our prayers go out to his friends and family.

I can't believe what I'm reading:confused: ????? Dennis fell down
the stairs at his own house? Wow, if this doesn't tell us all to make every day count......................
I met Dennis at the Lake X Pro Max developement meeting in December 1991. He was very knowledgeable and professional.
Truly a loss to his family, Mercury, and hot boaters around the world:( ....................
Regards,
Steve

Damn I hate to hear that. I only met Dennis a couple of times, but he was a great guy. Every time I talked to him on the phone he seemed to remember my other props and questions, and he must've spent 20 mins talking to me about my 32 cleaver when I sent it in for lab finishing. It's a great loss to Mercury Marine and the boat community. Our condolences to his family and friends.

He was such a great icon to the industry. Always there to listen, answer questions, help out in any way he could. He was always there to fix, make, or borrow you a prop. He was one of the driving forces in Mercury donating a Lightning ET to the March of Dimes charity auction for BTTW this last summer !!!!!! One of the best !!!!!!!! He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Dennis.
I am sure he would want us to remember the good times and thoughts we had with him. Here are a couple of pictures I want to remember him by. These are from BTTW 2002 at prop testing.
This is Dennis on the left and Rick Mackie on the right.

I never meet him but did talk to him on the phone once. He was very friendly, very helpful even willing to send me a test prop just to try! He will be missed and always remembered as the good man he was. Let me know if anyone is planning on doing anything for his family, Brad.
